Better late than never, we are finally IN YORK! This city is a big travel favourite to many visitors of the UK, and now I finally know why: its charmingly medieval cobblestoned centre, the impressive structure that is the York Minster, a whole catalogue of museums and galleries to peruse and of course tasty treats along the way!
Hop on the train with us and let’s visit York, England’s most dark academia coded city!

[Music] hello my peeps this is k aka kakibot and today I am welcoming you to York this is I would say the place that you simply have to visit if you’re traveling between Edinburgh and London it’s kind of like slab bang in the middle between those two it’s a part of the L all like Railway track so it’s super easy to get to from either of those cities and obviously ideally if you traveling from south of England up all the way into Scotland then why wouldn’t you it is just extremely photogenic like so far you know I have already spent about like 48 Hours of like you know clean time here and I have to say this is one of the prettiest cities I’ve ever been in I mean just look at that the yorkminster uh which is unfortunately quite expensive to go to so our first stop is going to be the one thing that York lets us see for free which is the York Rail Museum [Music] trains so yeah a trip to York can be done both as a day trip or as an overnight stay and um we kind of had to do both to finish this video so you know we do have some good input for our second trip we took the l& train from Edinburgh it was about 2 and 1/2 hours and cost about 80 quid per person both ways the original trip was by car and during that one we stayed in this lovely Shepherd’s hot outside of York alas I got the plague and I wasn’t really able to shoot the whole video can very much recommend it though as it was the most peaceful location with everything you might need including a cow okay so I know that I got you hyped for trains but before before we get to the museum Why not pick up a treat if you arrived by train you could try popping into partisan with their wide selection of bags I’m sure they will make any palette [Music] happy but if you’re coming by car or you’re up for a slightly heftier walk you could also stop by scarc Craft road for the Flory Bakery this Bakery is featured in the Britain’s best bakeries book and I can confirm their baks especially the Savory one with feta were the [Music] loveliest at last the promised trains now you might know that I am no newb to train museums just last year we made it all the way to Nagoya to visit the mlff and Railway Park I can link the video in the description for you however this Museum really is something it shouldn’t surprise me after all Britain is technically the birthplace of Railway but indeed this old waiting Hall is now populated by dozens of wonderful locomotives and train cars both British and international there’s even this old chinken as well as train themed memorabilia and bits and pieces of historical train stations also a lot of model trains again this experience is completely free it’s also quite a cool place to chill down on a hot day and there’s a plenty of seating if you need rest [Music] the only bit that we paid for was the little train ride from the museum to the yorkminster it was not speedy by any means but on a busy day like this it was enjoyable to not have to dodge other peeps on the [Music] Pavements and yes conveniently we found ourselves right in front of the York Minster hands down one of the most impressive Cathedrals I have ever laid my eyes upon it is the largest medieval Gothic Cathedral north of the Alps and its Tower weighs as much as 40 jumbo [Music] [Applause] [Music] Jets so the cathedral is Hefty and so is the fee to get in basic fee to entry is £18 or 24 if you also want to climb the tower this ticket will be valid for a whole year afterwards so if you’re really into Cathedrals your next visit will be on the [Music] house within its history the York Minster faced extensive fires four times which explains its expensive upkeep apparently it takes £30,000 per day to run the Minster which is honestly quite hard to W my head [Music] around you might not expect that the Minster has some cute details too after the last fire which has happened in the 1980s due to the roof being struck by lightning a competition was held as a part of Children’s Program blue pater and the winners designed a handful of new decorative elements called bosses for the Minster new ceiling there’s an astronaut a cool whale and also a second astronaut for good measure [Music] [Applause] [Music] it is now time to finally get lost in York’s beautiful tiny streets tea lovers absolutely have to stop by hebden tea one of the English companies that actually do make me feel like British people can appreciate te in all of its Glory I do have some feelings about this otherwise it is a great souvenir to bring home to your friends and family there’s you know caffeine teas green there’s matcha there’s caffeine free mixes delicious stuff [Music] so while in town you might want to pop into petties an iconic afternoon tea spot where you can also pick up some baked goods as gifts for loved ones or yourself I’m not going to [Music] [Applause] judge I didn’t really want to hang out in the queue though so I ended up in the comic book shopping instead um traveling men stores can be found all over the English North and they will forever be the pain of my [Music] budgeting and then there is of course the shambles genuinely just the spookily Charming as photographs suggest but a big caveat this is definitely an area that will benefit from you coming either early in the morning think 8:00 a.m. or later at night maybe 7:00 p.m. onwards because otherwise you can say goodbye to any photography intentions especially around weekends it was once known as the great flesh shambles and it was actually a meat market a lot less romantic than the picturesque photo spot it has now become the area’s design was supposed to keep as much sunlight out as possible to keep the meat fresh for longer nowadays it’s mostly fudge gelato and other markedly less meaty [Music] treats you also probably know that the shamble most iconic shop is the York ghost Merchants where people happily wait for often more than an hour to buy this quintessential souvenir I have a little Pro tip for you though you can dodge the weight by instead walking over to the St Anthony’s Garden just outside of York City walls where you will find the actual ghosty workshop and a huge selection of ghosties to buy and bring home [Music] if you’re getting a bit peckish again at this point there’s a delightful little scun cafe here with upstairs seating and that signature York interior I just couldn’t get enough of the fact that most little cafes and eies in the city are housed in the most lovely little medieval structures [Music] another technique of injecting your step with more pep is hot chocolate York cocoa Works run chocolate making tours but also has a simple little cafe where you can pick one of their many chocolate intensities to be melted into a little cup of deliciousness [Music] welcome to my relaxing intermission here next to the river where it seems that most of the locals are spending time on a sunny weekend unlike all of the visitors who are just you know packed throughout the city center I thought that at this point of the video I would share some experience with you that I have gathered over my two sort of independent visits here um which is that when we first came here that was um June it was kind of like first half of June it wasn’t quite you know the kids holidays yet and uh also obviously the weather wasn’t as nice and it was a Friday and today it’s a Saturday so you know obviously there’s going to be more people but also not only local UK kids but also Euro kids have their time off now and you can see so many huge groups of like twin and teens who are here with their summer English schools and it is really quite busy in there so I think that if you’re planning a trip to York and you do have some flexibility I would recommend not going on a weekend and just maybe not going during July and August I guess that in a way a lot of these rules apply to both York and Edinburgh but I think that Edinburgh actually to me feels a lot more like it’s just packed all the time while here I definitely felt a bit of a difference now that the the busyness of the city center today is what forced us to have this little stroll along the river which is very pleasant but it also let us find this little Hidden Gem that I want to share with you which is the two Hoots little ice cream barge like a little boat that sells like seven eight flavors of dairy ice cream on weekends like this if you do want to take advantage of this delicious delicious ice cream and it is it’s really very nice uh you should follow them on Instagram because they are not here every day they are here on sunny days and mostly weekends it’s right next to the Millennium Bridge delicious stuff refreshing and no [Music] cues for lunching or lunding I’m sure that is the award for eating a bigger meal between lunch and dinner time I have two tips either stay in the immediate City Center and pop into one of the York roast company branches now if you are British and you have a high standard for a roast this will not fully satisfy you but if you’re new to the concept of a Sunday roast this is a quick and easy way of taking it off your UK foodie bucket list there is a good amount of variety and it seems to have pretty visitor friendly opening hours as it is open until 10: p.m. most days and on weekend actually past midnight but if you truly want to treat yourself and this is a special occasion trip for you York has a lovely little small plate restaurant which is featured in michan’s bib gourman scos be prepared to spend at least 40 pounds per person here but your dopamine hunting brain and your taste buds will be having a lot of fun at scos [Music] coming from Edinburgh I can get a bit frustrated when a gallery actually wants money from me but you know what this Claud Monet exhibition was absolutely worth all of it not only because I am an absolute sucker for impressionism but also because the York art gallery has set up this mesque wildf flower Meadow in the back of the building I mean how lovely is that [Music] now York naturally has a lot more to see than just the attractions we showed you I’d love to come back and visit the York Castle Museum and I imagine families with kids would have a spectacular time at the yic Viking experience there are countless ghost walks and the Yorkshire museum with its Garden Truly a lot to do in one day even a whole weekend as I always say it’s good to have some good stuff left for our next [Music] visit now one thing that I am absolutely sure I will need to do again next time I’m in New York is visiting the uku tea house now this is not just a tea Centric place this is very much a nice sort of Japanese homecooking pastro and I cannot stress enough how jealous I am of York for having a place like this the vibe was so friendly so comfortable just just cozy and the food was impeccable so one last thing I’m going to tell you about your and about things to do here is right behind me it’s the city walls and I absolutely love this as a this like old medieval structure that you to this day can walk around and get these slightly elevated slightly less usual views over the city some of the wall parts are like next to the Minster so you get like nice views over kind of like the back Gardens of some of the buildings that you normally wouldn’t see over here this wall kind of leads almost all the way to the station where we’re headed of too it’s one of those rare things in York that you can actually do for free because York is not a cheap City compared to Edinburgh where there are so many things to do for free like museums and galleries York doesn’t really do that except for the Train Museum so definitely do not miss out on the train museum okay that truly takes me to the end if you enjoy this video please do uh give it a thumb up uh leave a comment it really helps me and the algorithm it helps more people find my content if you super like my content then you might want to see some of my bonus videos over on patreon those are obviously more Scotland themed uh but you know there’s an extra one every month and this is the address and you can go say hi to me there and leave a little tip I will really appreciate it and of course Instagram kak BL for my illustrations and Kaki BL for my photography from trips like this so um yeah if you do like my videography you will probably like my photography as well and now it’s starting to rain I think that is our Cube to make it to the Ln train yes okay let’s do that okay hope you enjoy this video let me know in the comment section if you’ve ever been to York and if you loved it and I shall see you soon [Music]

  1. Unlike Scotland in England lot places don't get handouts financial support from English government. One Reasons Minster charges because if didnt get income absolutely no way to fund any repairs to any of the Cathedral.
Something worth doing in minster is visit to undercroft not be confused with crypt. Undercroft is area directly above vaulted sealings top of minister it's guided tour only but we'll worth it u see plenty of areas most public never see.

  2. Not mentioned (there is so much to York and time is precious), in the winter months in either January or February there is a battle reenactment by Cliffords Tower (Castle Museum) during the day and after dark there is a viking long ship sailed down the river and from the side archers fire flaming arrows and set alight the vessel.
I'm not sure if this is every year so check York websites etc, it really is a must see, but wrap up because it is a long day and it's winter in the north.

  3. My second vlog of yours and I loved it as much as the first.
    Great fun and very informative.
I visit York regularly living only a short distance away and I still learned things I didn't know.
    Mmmmhh. Which vlog next. 😁😁🤔🤔

  4. Im going to Liverpool for a short midweek trip in a few months. I got one spare day in my itinerary, and even though York is two hours away by train it certainly made its way on the list of potential day-trips for that spare day. It looks like an incredible visit.
