The Worst Towns Of Norfolk, UK

Welcome back to Turdtowns the channel that brings you the lesser known places in the UK, today for bad reasons. We are off to the County of Norfolk in the East of England.
A perfectly nice County where most of the Towns, Villages and Cities are nice, especially the capital Norwich. But there is some poverty and struggle if you look hard enough. We only managed to find Four places to feature this week as the County was just too nice even if it was a bit flat!

Suffukk it only made sense for me to continue my quest to reveal the turn towns of the UK with the next county up Norolk i’m going to give you all the same disclaimer as I gave you at the start of last video nice county if not a little bit boring so most of the towns that you’ll see in today’s video are just bad by county standards and not bad in country standards don’t forget to hit heat heat [Music] number four Golston on Sea we start off our list with the seaside town of Goulston with a population of 24,481 it’s essentially part of somewhere else that’s coming up later on spoilers but it does count as a town so I don’t think it’s cheating slim Lumps for Turd Towns in Norolk it’s a former fishing town turd tourist town turned industrial town it doesn’t really know what it wants to be down by the seafront it’s actually okay you wouldn’t know you’re in a turd town if it wasn’t for two things number one the central attraction is a boarded up nightclub impossible to miss and really dragging the area down this is the familyrun nightclub Ocean Rooms which shuted doors last year the council have absolutely no idea what to do with it because it needs a million pound worth of renovations currently a family of rats are using it for squatting and they could be seen charming locals by mating in broad daylight along the prominard there is also a random derelict lighthouse which you think could possibly be used as some sort of tourist attraction but instead it’s left pointlessly standing tall and alone just like a turd pushed out through a needle apart from that not too bad and the theater looks nice it was busy around here too and why not this beach was voted the best in England it’s actually somewhat surprising with all the nearby factories but I guess you could just look the other way this year Goldston was also voted the most affordable spot for a UK beach holiday so it’s not all bad just don’t hire a beach hut as they were all vandalized and burgled back in March the real problems arise when you leave the seafront area and start digging a bit deeper the town just feels a bit unloved it certainly won’t be winning any beauty awards anytime soon it’s depressing and ugly probably got the least going for it on today’s list they just closed down the town’s last bank which I hardly even feel like complaining about anymore i don’t really think it had a single shop of any use plenty of barbers though found the telephone exchange without even looking it up though don’t you just love a good old 60s asbestos and tears design right in the town center it’s dreary bleak and I bet it looks a whole lot worse in the winter if you want to live in Gold Stones on Bladder you can do so for the average price of 231,000 just be wary of where you buy because there are unexloded World War II bombs in the area with one found as recently as 2023 and the council believe there’s more here whilst it may not actually be such a bad thing if they found more if you buy here make sure to get bomb insurance and flood insurance and there’s a lot of crime you ain’t getting insured number three Kings Linn kings is a town with a population of 47,610 i didn’t hate it here i really didn’t it’s fine margins on tur towns this week but there are some facts which make this town worse than other places in the county this was once the third most important port town in England nowadays it wouldn’t even crack the top 100 it’s yet another place where residents regularly report a putrid smell you’re going to see a lot of that on today’s list something nasty is brewing in Norfolk it feels incredibly busy on the roads in and around Kingslin no thanks to the one-way system i seriously hate Norfolk’s roads and I am somebody who loves driving i have to do lots of it for this gig and it’s the only time so far where I’ve really not wanted to drive anymore a quick Google of the place and you would think this was some sort of fantastic place to go and it does have some beauty and you could tell that tourists come here because they’ve installed the most upto-ate parking meter technology £150 for 30 minutes i’ll pass i’d rather park further away or you know not come here at all but it genuinely does look good but then you arrive and everything turns backwards even the birds fly backwards in Kings Lin strangely one of the biggest issues in King’s Lin is the wait to get dental work done they’ve had to pay NHS dentists to visit schools to teach them how to brush their teeth i wish I was making that one up the town center is admittedly not the worst place I’ve ever visited but it was fairing better than other entries on this list but it was just kind of bland and lacking in personality in fact so much so that I genuinely don’t remember ever coming here and had to look back at my footage when writing this script they’ve tried to spend some money on regeneration but it must be one of the cheapest looking rebuilds I’ve ever seen take this new street here for example it looks horrendous everything is mismatched and pisscoled it truly belongs in the bog the middle was decent but the outskirts wow they were scruffy they take Derelik to a whole new level here in Kingslin because the buildings they’ve abandoned are all massive 10 years to start work on the old post office building is a bit ridiculous why does it take so long to do anything in this country current WWE wrestler Nick Aldis is from here along with one of the most famous lottery winners of all time King of the Chabs Michael Carroll a true reflection on the town’s people of Kingslin because Carol blamed the loss of his lottery money on dyslexia and said he couldn’t read by the time he’d left school kingslin only just misses out on taking the top spot for the worst crime in the county with a rate of 124 in a thousand it’s much worse than you would expect from a quick look at this place there are several large feuding families who live here too so don’t get involved in air drama or your body might be found floating in the lin number two Theford thatford is a town with a population of 25,492 i’d heard that this place pretty much is the standard bearer for tur towns in Norfolk so I was building a toilet paper landing pad bracing for impact but somehow despite that there were still a few likable parts at one time Theford was the sixth largest place in Great Britain admittedly a very long time ago it’s hard to imagine a town as deformed as this one holding so much importance in the 1800s the plan had been to copy Bath Chelenham and Harager and turn this place into a spa town this turned out to be a big mistake because that was deemed far too depressing for anyone to choose to come here on holiday the town was badly failing and was no longer growing so after World War II they forcibly removed Londoners from their city against their will and locked them up at Theford this did keep the town going somewhat though i can’t hate on this place as badly as I’d like because it has so many memorials to one of my favorite TV shows growing up but Zepford is a turd town don’t tell him Pike parts of the Dad’s Army TV show were filmed here although I don’t really recognize any of it possibly because the place has become so rundown and ugly since the ‘ 70s it has a museum for the show which opens an incredible one day a week for 5 hours there’s also another museum in the town which was complaining this week that the pub next door had been boarded up for 4 and a half years causing tourists to assume that the museum was closed too what tourists there was also a huge forest castle ruins and a river which somewhat distracts from the turdy nature of the place that third is truly a tale of two turds one on each side of a busy road on one side of the road is terrible and on the other side of the road is slightly less terrible in a bizarre choice from the council they decided to build Abbey Farm Council estate right next to Priaryy Ruins it has been given the name Scabby Abbey i’m seeing a trend here they have stuff for tourists to see and do but in order to do it you will have to risk your life debt has the third worst crime in the county at 101 in a thousand these aren’t exactly shocking figures but this place does have a reputation which perhaps speaks more to how much of a nice county Norfolk is most people in the area describe Theford as being rough as a badger’s ass they’ve tried to create a nice area around by the river but I don’t know whether to laugh or cry because every single shop was sitting abandoned so it kind of spoils the hard work in trying to make the area nice that that went viral in 2023 when they tried and failed to turn it into a 15-minute city for those of you in the US basically this was something that had happened to places like Oxford where they wanted you to not really leave the town much and everything you should need to live should be within 15 minutes of where you live i actually suggest watching the video because it’s an excellent display of the strong that community spirit fighting back against counselors who rarely work in the best interest of their people and winning can you imagine being trapped in Theford no wonder the residents were up in arms at least it’s cheap to live in Thatford at an average price of only 236,000 thatford is bearable if you ignore the people in the decaying buildings if you really need to live in Norfolk and this is all you can afford it’s not the end of the world but you might feel like the scum of Norfolk but you’ll be the king in other parts of the UK and number one Great Yarmouth i want to know just how many of you in the comments section were expecting this place to take the top spot this seaside town has a population of 28,982 the burough of Great Yarmouth is around 100,000 people it’s a premier holiday destination for people in the east of England it is the Blackpool of the East it’s actually wellnown and unlike most places on Turans I’m sure some of you could actually point it out on the map there’s just one problem the name this place is far from great somewhat rare for the biggest Turtown on a list i will start out with some praise as far as UK seaside resort towns go it actually did have stuff on the prominard to make it feel like you were on holiday if you compare this to somewhere similar like Western Superare it is night and day as long as money is not an issue I doubt kids would get bored here i was surprised it made it onto the top 10 worst seaside towns in the UK they have tried here obviously the weather is going to be a mitigating factor in that and I happened to arrive when it was gale force winds so the drone wasn’t really an option the first thing I saw on my arrival was a gigantic lap dancing club where the building looked like a bomb had hit it besides that thumbs up for the Golden Mile but attached to that you’ve got the mold mile this disgusting tacky street feels straight out of a Spanish budget holiday hmos ratinfested B&Bs a neverending selection of junk food fake clothes and souvenir shops is all that you’re going to find here and the stench my god was it overpowering it was like someone had scraped the out of date McDonald’s food into a rat’s nest inside of a nightclub gent’s toilets at 5:00 in the morning this street isn’t the only issue though because you don’t have to go far to find out just how much this seaside town is struggling with the economic collapse of Britain there is no shortage of boarded up former hotels here it is one of the most depressing places I’ve ever had the misfortune to visit there is a lot of boarded up buildings here mostly to stop squatters and antisocial behavior one of the buildings burned down when it turned out it was being used as a grow farm it got to the point where Great Yarmouth Council probably still believe in window taxes whether it’s the boozy stag dues or doped up delinquents it feels a bit unsafe here away from the seafront indeed Great Yarmouth has the worst crime in the county of 129 in a thousand it is said to be so dodgy here that residents bring their doorsteps in at night to top it all off this place was filthy rubbish is strewn about everywhere to the point where you can’t tell if you’re standing on pavements or crisp packets great Yarmouth is the 32nd most deprived town in England with a third of neighborhoods being impoverished due to that you can buy a house here for the incredibly low average price of just 214,000 it often does get lumped in with low stuff as they are nearby seaside towns and I have to say despite Great Yama being a bit bigger the shopping center wasn’t noticeably better i wouldn’t really recommend spending time around either of the town shopping streets to be honest drug taking is rife in Great Yamouth they actually have serious problems here like many of the UK seaside towns the train only goes to Norwich and the roads are terrible i absolutely despise that when you’ve got two large places nearby each other and you can’t get to them how can you not get to lo on the train direct in terms of roads the A47 will be your main road but it’s mostly just a standard road with a few dual carriageway sections it could take around an hour to reach Norwich i can see why people would feel a bit trapped here in terms of a holiday I probably think it’s okay when the sun’s shining the place is decent but 90% of the time it won’t be which means 90% of the time you’ll be longing to achieve a great escape from Yarmouth and that is another log down the bog did we miss anywhere out i really don’t know where we should go next the world is my oyster so make sure you let me know he who shouts the loudest is probably right don’t forget to hit like share
