I have been to 70 countries all over the world but until today I had never been to Scotland I took the Caledonian sleeper train from London last night and I arrived in aine at 7:00 a.m. this morning I was on a mission to see as many abdine attractions as I could during my stay so here are some of the best things to do in abine that I discovered during my few days in this city so the first thing that you might want to do in aine is to get a good breakfast and I found just the place this is cup C Cafe in the center of the city and they do vegan haggus but don’t worry if you’re not vegan they do plenty of non veggie options as well something that you really shouldn’t Miss in aine is this building just behind me Provost Skin’s house so provos was one of the rulers of the b um and this building was built in the 16th century nowadays it is a museum of people who have really impacted abedine and abedine life you’ve got inventors sport people musicians and all sorts it’s a really interesting Museum and it really reminded me how proud people were of this city another Museum that you should definitely check out is the abedine Marian Museum this Museum was excellent and I couldn’t believe it was completely free to walk around and explore it focuses on Aiden’s fishing Heritage and also its North Sea Mining and it’s just such a fascinating museum with so many different exhibits and I learned so much about the city here that’s really interesting so another fun fact about aine is that the oil industry is very big here and oil was discovered in around the 1960s and shell moved up here and just the industry really took off and it made abedine a very wealthy City so nowadays abedine has the highest rate of millionaires per 100,000 people higher than London and it is the wealthiest city in Scotland and that’s literally all thanks to the oil industry which is related to the Sea all this oil was found underneath the North Sea close to abedine but like off off the shore Amy is another one of aine’s top landmarks and I love the architecture of this one this is marish child college and while nowadays it is part of abedine university it used to be its own University when it was first built in the 16th century but in the 19th century they joined forces so nowadays there is only one abdine University I’ve made it to Castle Gate which is one of the main squares of abine and just behind me is the merat cross this dates back to 1686 and it has loads of Engravings of Scottish monarchs as you may have guess by the name this actually used to be where the abedine castle once stood but nowadays none of it remains unfortunately another one of the best things to do in abedine is to just Tak in all of the Granite architecture it is not called the Granite City for nothing and there is nowhere better to do that than at Castle Gate literally all of the buildings surrounding me are made of including the Salvation Church the weather spoons and loads of other buildings as well another one of the best things to do in abdine is to come to the beach now I’m here in February so I’m not Sun Ving or swimming but this beach is a 15minute walk from abedine City Center and it’s a lovely Sandy Beach it’s not huge but there’s definitely enough sand to stretch out on and enjoy the summer also probably not something you’d be doing in the winter months but this is konas right here which is a fun fair and if you’re visiting in the summer and if you’re visiting with kids I imagine this would be something to check out so I made it to girdle Point Lighthouse and Tor battery so this is like a hike hiking distance from abedine it was around an hour from our hotel we ran some of the way so it’s been slightly less nice really nice Headland just nice to have a bit of nature a bit of coastal views and you can walk along a sort of coastal path from here so this is definitely one of the best things to do in aine if you want to get out of the city a bit without actually having to drive [Music] [Music] anywhere it is one week later I’ve been to Shetland and I’m back and I’m spending another couple of days in aine just making sure I’ve checked off everything that I want to do here so we are actually going on a walking tour later on today but I just to took a bus up to the old abdine area cuz there were a few things that I wanted to see here and then I’m going to run back I’ve made it to my first stop this is the brig oi and this is a 13th century bridge that was the only route into a from the north until the 19th century so used to be quite the thare nowadays I think it’s only people who are seeing it’s a tourist attraction or just here on a nice little walk I’m now in Satan Park Wetland and I only discovered this by chance because I’m walking towards this Cathedral you’ll be able to see the spes there and this came up as a cut through just found some information for us so this looks like quite a nice place to come for a little walk if you’re in the old abine area so what have they got say the abandoned Meander of the river Dawn was part of the seat in the state became a public park in 1947 and the river Dawn runs along the edge of the park Larks nearby are St matcha cathedral which is where I’m going and there’s been flooding in areas which made Parts a b unusable but nowadays there is a wetland project so in 2016 these flooded areas were made into a wetland to manage the water levels and that’s supposed to increase biodiversity so that’s really cool you can see different birds here including mutans mads oyster catchers herin teals and Jack doll and there’s even a chance of seeing some deer and different different bugs as well my next stop is King’s College Chapel this is a late 15th century Chapel that is part of the University of avine and honestly I feel like I’ve just stepped into Hogwarts this place is stunning this was definitely a highlight of abdine for me and I know Edinburgh gets a real reputation for being the like Harry Potter City but honestly I felt like I was walking around hogwart’s campus when I was here I also went to the KR shank’s botanical gardens which were okay there it was winter so the plants weren’t amazing but they were good to check out and just had a little walk around the old abdine as well I love all the cobblestone streets here we went on a walking tour that day I’ll put some information about that in the description and the last thing that I recommend doing in abedine is to take a day trip to Stone Haven ston Haven is just 20 minutes away by train and the town is very pretty nice Harbor but you can walk on the cliffs to get to Dina castle and this is a spectacular walk along the Scottish Coast paath it’s not too long it only takes about 45 minutes and if you don’t want to walk back you can take a bus as well the cast as we know it dates back to the 14th century but there has been settlements here since prehistoric times you can go into the castle it costs about £10 to enter and it’s not occupied by The National Trust or the English Heritage but it’s also worth just walking around and taking in the lovely Coastal views

  1. I enjoyed your video, however your prompt nciation of two words left me wondering what you mean, Provist and Marchial aren't pronounced the way you did, from an ex Aberdeonian now living in Australia. Obviously impossible bro teach pronunciation in this comment.

  2. I reccomend 'The Silver Darling' resturant which is right down at the north side of the harbour entrance. (Silver Darlings was what we called herring in the 1800's because the economy ws so relient on them)

  3. Claire, thanks so much for your excellent video. I've been thinking about a trip to Aberdeen and I do think this video might have sealed the deal for me.
