Matteo Jorgenson and Jonas Vingegaard say they want to beat Tadej Pogacar on the bike, not when he crashes. The team reacted to slowing down for the world champion after his crash in Tour de France 2025 Stage 11. After comments the other day of unsportsmanlike actions from Tadej Pogacar toward Jorgenson, Jorgenson says they are trying to beat him in a sporting way. #TDF

Yeah, I mean when it’s when it’s like this, I mean it was just uh pure unluck. I mean uh it was not because he he he overcooked the corner or anything. He just over overlapped wheels. Uh so yeah, I think uh that’s that’s the right way to do it. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. [Music] I was kind of in the back in the start and uh every time it would slow down it would the road would be blocked and I couldn’t make it to the front and then it would restart again. So was just on the back foot and then uh behind some splits but also was with all the GC guys behind the splits. So I felt safe in the chaos but uh still it was full chaos. You know, speaking of chaos, um, Bugattacha crashed uh just behind you, I think. Did you notice that crash? I don’t think it was uh right behind me, but there was one guy behind you and then behind that guy. Okay. Yeah, I heard the crash for sure. And then um we thought, yeah, maybe it’s going to be a gap because he’s going to lose time, but it seemed to be that you were slowing down as a group. Yep. we uh made the collective decision to uh wait. [Music] That’s um yeah, we all decided to uh to wait for him. Does it feel like the right decision? I think uh yeah, it’s the sporting decision. I think after a lot of the comments the other day about uh yeah I guess accusations of unsportsmanlike stuff that I’ve never seen before from him. I think uh at least now he can be confident that we’re we’re uh yeah trying to beat him in a sporting way.

Pathetic – you're there to win. the fact that he came off isn't your problem, it's his and you should have made the most of it.
I think Jonas missed a big opportunity here, twas about fourteen seconds b4 Pogz was on yhe pedal again….he could have cut Tadejs lead by some twenty seconds if only……forget about sportsmanship, Tadej is a monster in cycling, and to beat him,you need no nice, and cute little gestures of this sort….
I understand the respect in waiting for yellow yersey if it crashes, but since it doesn't happen vice versa, is it a truly justified tradition? Its gallant and sportsmanlike but competion-wise it doesn't seem logical to me.
Sounds like MJ trying not to say anything incriminating. Healy has got a different perception of things
Matteo losing 2 watts with that stache
Jorgenson wsa mad af LOL
Days 2&3 after a crash are shockers.
Once the adrenaline wears off and things get puffy, Pog has a tough week a head of him.
Whilst alot want to see his dominance challenged, no one wants this because of a crash.
Uno X have inadvertantly for the wrong reason spiced this tour up a bit.
Sportsmanship
its just BS waiting rule. its a race, lots of rider crash prior to this had theyve been waited by the peloton? no, so why wait pogacar is he special than the other riders? they all just the same pro rider so why give special treatment to only one. BS! race should be a race! if you unlucky it just what it is.
Jonas banks on a Pogi crash
At the end of the day we have here 2 ABSOLUTE UNITS in Pogacar and Jonas. And only one of whom is EL PATRÓN.
If they say you wait, you wait. If you DISRESPEK that call then you better be ready to beat them on the tarmac. The peloton does not forgive and does not forget. The peloton is legion. And EL PATRÓN or Visma would not forget any DISHONOUR.
how come they didn't wait for the green jersey
True Sportmanship!
Crashes happen that are 10 X worse than that !
Contador got hammered for unsportsmanlike conduct when he took advantage of Andy Shleck mechanical issue. Kudos to the peloton for slowing down to wait Pogi.
Great sportsmanship 🎉👍
Can anyone shed any light on that final comment he made about Pog making comments about unsportsmanlike conduct? Cheers
This is the way real competitors race!! Hats off gentlemen, I think Tadej would do the same for JV.
Isn’t it pogacar’s teams fault for not being around him to protect him from that wheel overlap? And if it is , why is it the responsibility of the rest of the teams to make up for that. If he’d had a mechanical or been knocked off by a spectators bag etc, then waiting is respectful and 100% the right thing to do. He just got caught in a crash, again why should he get special treatment for having a crash. I can remember Cadel Evans losing a Vuelta because he had a flat tire, and the Spanish teams attacked, led by Movistar . This rule is applied only when wanted. Part of winning the tour is not crashing. Being in a safe spot. If you get bad luck that’s what it is , bad luck. Ride further towards the front.
The question is
Would Pogacar do the same for other top GC riders?
My opinion, no. Is yet to be seen.
thank you to all the gentlemen, " he did not over cook the corner " so not his mistake. very nice comment
In a number of interviews I’ve watched of Jonas, I get the impression of a lack of sincerity behind the words.
Total respect to jonas and jumbo visma
I love this classy sportsmanship at the prime! Respect 🫡
Weren't they close enough to the finish that Pogacar would have gotten their time anyway? They should have tried to chase down the lead group.
Visma has done this for Pogi multiple times already, in the Tour.
I don't think I've ever seen UAE wait for a rival .. just saiyan it because Pogi had a lot of criticism for their tactics the last couple of days. I think he owes them a short and brief apology for that. Just to keep the spirit of fair play and healthy rivalry going. So that, in the end; we'll have a podium with 3 smiles
Healy gets involved in a crash in week one… and nobody waited. He wasn't in yellow and didn't over cook any corner either. He'd be in yellow by 4 minutes if they had. Punctures and crashes are part of racing. Recall Jonas on the cobbles stage in TdF 2022? I don't blame it's sportsmanship to wait or unsportsman like to not wait. Imagine F1. Another car punctures Hamilton's tire from contact and hes forced to pit…is Verstappen "unsportsman" for not pulling over and waiting for him to catch back up? No, its racing.
I think it's quite normal for JV who lives in the shadow of pogi to act like this. And of course the comments from pogi few days ago might also strengthen hate between them.
Proper sportsmanship, respect
Makes no sense. Aren't you trying to win?
It is not wrong for a competitor to wait or not to wait.
It is up to each spectator to judge who is a great athlete.
honestly i dont want to take away from visma and their show of sportsmanship but what could they have gained, a few seconds and then looked like the villains to the rest of the world?
i think this was the only sensible decision and it was for sure johannesens fault that pogacar crashed. pogacar is battered and bruised and almeida already left the tour. if visma cant beat him now they wont beat him either if they gain 30 seconds while hes lying on the ground. not to mention both remco and healy told everbody to stop.
How about roglic crashes in earlier versions of tdf?
respect
Pour résumé..on fait chuter Poj..on joue à ne pas attaquer le blessé..et demain..on ne suce plus sa roue…et on attaque…j'ai tout bon..
Not the first time this kinda thing has happened, Bradley wiggins did the same thing when he had the yellow jersey and neutralised the Pelton waited for his openent who punctured after riding over tacks.
The French have a word for it, general of the peleton, or something like that.
How many other riders get such respect?
Why are some so privildged?
