I bought this American eagle bicycle because of the crankset, wheelset and brakes. It feels a bit bad but anything I won’t use I’ll donate to the bike co op!
Have a really nice steel frame from Union in the cellar after someone stripped it for parts. Slightly wrong size though.

actually a good practice i feel, car repair is the same thing because parts are unavailable or too expensive. good used wheels or derailleurs are good to harvest.

I almost bought a 58cm litespeed (i fit a 54cm) for a basically mint r7000 silver groupset, matching crankset included.

Yeah – I think a bunch of the parts you end up donating from this bike are going to make someone very happy.

You have no moral obligation here, aside from making sure the remaining useable parts go back to the community where they can be used instead of going to a landfill – and co-ops are perfect for that. Cleanse your conscience OP. Let your xbike spirit roll free!

I used to do that all time! I still do, but I used to, too.
Don’t feel bad at all, as long as you’re being economical about it, and breathing new life into an otherwise lifeless bike.

I wanted to try bar end shifters so I poked around the co-op, and I got hit with $80. I bought a bike with bar ends, a brooks saddle and a decent suntour group set for $125.
I love my bike co-op, but I do not hesitate shopping around for the best deal, which is why I have 8 bikes now.

I was about to spend 60€ on a cannondale that was a bout 6 sizes too small for me cause the guy had a XTR shifter on it. But I also would have put one of my other shifters and replaced any other parts that would have been taken off and then resell it

Love the cracks. What are the tires?

Nope Just bought a 19” norco with prestige tubing, XTR 8spd shifter and brakes for a mint 96 S-Works team I was building up. Had nos WTB. No guilt here
Those are cool parts! I had never heard of the bike company, and reading about it is hilarious: Dutch, but covered in an embarrassment of American iconography.

No, but I’d really like to see your shop, with all the extra stuff.

Those Turbines and the Maguras are well worth buying an entire bike if you love 90s bikes. Honestly, I wouldn’t worry a bit since you’re donating the parts you’re not using to a co-op. They’ll be put to good use.

Yes I mean shame to breakdown the surly but sometimes you need something right. Actually never thought of this but it’s a genius idea!
