  1. Another don't is. Don't forget that apart from being a very historic city. It is a working city and will be very busy and the traffic can be insane. Speaking as a local. Apart from that have a wonderful time. ❤

  2. 5:36 – North of England!

Also in York the price you pay for a pint (if you stay away from the tourist trap/deep city centre pubs) you'll probably save the train fare drinking in London if you go on a night out!

  3. Funny about the North thing, my husband is from Sunderland and he says York isn’t in the North. Is the York Tower Museum where they have the sweet shop? I’m from York and I don’t recall it being called the York Tower (or Museum)but I haven’t been there in 40 years. I really must visit again. Is the Roman Bath pub still there (where they have a glass floor so you can see the Roman Baths)”

  4. Originally from York. My tip is enjoy the city, but then go to the countryside north of the city. That's the real Yorkshire to me. Go somewhere like Helmsley or Pickering, or even better, a smaller village in the Moors like Rosedale. Go to farm shops/cafes and proper country pubs.

  5. If you want a good book about the english, "Watching the English" by Kate Fox, is a very interesting book about the peculiarities of being english. The funniest part of that book is about how us english exchange names.

  6. I'm an 18yo French girl living in France and you guys don't know how much I love York, it's my dream to live there, 3yrs I'm obsessed with that city, I started English studies And York motivates me to work hard and to continue. Unfortunately Yorkshire tea is hard to find in France and when I do there's only a few it's expensive, but I love it really

  7. As someone who has lived in York 25 years and still do, I have to say York has been ruined by the excessive drinking culture, it is not a friendly place at the weekends or during the horse racing.

  8. Don't forget to stray a little outside the Bar Walls and go see the Windmill. If you go on a Friday or Saturday morning, you can buy flour that was ground in that very mill: it is a working windmill. Just down the street from it is the York nuclear Bunker, which is an English Heritage site – so you can go see that at the same time.

  9. So glad you loved it and relieved you mentioned Betty's! An absolute must. Take home a Fat Rascal. Dont miss Karl, my nephew, playing plano near the Minster, or Betty's. Be generous! He's an amazing musician😮

  10. As local I'm gald you enjoyed my hometown, I would riot if York became like London. Not to mention I think every attempt made to either rebel or overthrow Southern English power came from up here.

  11. There isn’t A Northern accent. There is a York accent, different from Sheffield, Barnsley, Hull, Leeds, Bradford, etc, (all cities in Yorkshire with unique accents) and very different from other Northern cities.

  12. Please do a vlog about Oxford (😮and Cambridge). I am planning to visit Oxford if my son is accepted for a place in his Canadian university's summer abroad course. I have been there, years ago, but if we go it will be for about a month. I mentioned Cambridge, which I also visited years ago, but I think I can't mention one without mentioning the other. Long live Oxbridge! Towns and Gowns. Also ,if you do, please include Blenheim Palace.

  13. You probably showed one of the main things about York, the rain, remember to be prepared. For some quiet time the lovely Rowntree Park is delightful and there is a reading cafe. Well worth doing the York tour bus on your first visit to get your bearings. Little laugh for you when standing on the walls overheard (sorry) American loudly commenting on the arrow slits in the walls saying that people in those days probably didn't know how to use a rifle!

  14. The scene with harry potter and hagrid in the train station just before he vanishs was actually filmed in york train station the other train station sences where filmed at kings cross in london

  15. It seems like an ideal place for me. In my country, people tend to avoid speaking many truths for fear of offending or displeasing someone, so it’s quite common to say that something is great when it’s actually terrible. However, I can't be like that – I always end up telling the truth, perhaps I’m unusual in that sense. I like rain, cold weather, and I read a lot of Victorian-era books, which makes me really wish to visit York. Although I don’t have much experience travelling, I will organise myself to visit this lovely city one day.

  16. Great review, as a York resident I will say stay away from the York Roast Co, roast meats in a Yorkshire Pudding, vastly overpriced and not good quality, it’s a tourist trap…many more amazing places to eat much cheaper, try the street food quarter in the Shambles market…you won’t be disappointed.

  17. Last summer I was there. If you like trains, the train museum is fantastic and it is photo friendly. Also, if you don't mind climbing stairs the minister climb is very cool.

  18. Thanks mate for a great review of my home county……..one thing you missed though is the fish and chip shops. In Yorkshire we cook the fish and chips in beef fat, which gives them a superior flavour and crispiness.

  19. Thank you for the content about York. We visited last week as part of our overall England trip. The city is amazing and we really enjoyed our time there.

  20. We went to England back in 2011. We were there for three weeks, based mostly in London, but we did take the train to visit Bath and Cambridge on two separate day trips. During the middle week we took the train up to the Lake District for a couple of days, then took the train across to York and spent a few days there. We stayed just outside the walled area, but found the areas inside the walls completely walkable. Yes we explored the York Castle museum, the National Railway Museum, Jorvik Viking Centre, the Merchant Adventurer’s Hall, the Shambles (which was originally where all the butcher shops were) and so on. During one of the days we took a day trip out to Studley Royal/Fountains Abbey & then Castle Howard. fantastic. We got hooked up with that day trip through the Info Centre, with a reasonably priced private driver who was great. We also attended Evensong at York Minster. So much to enjoy. York is a fantastic place to visit. And like I said, we were only in the area for 3 days. So many things we DIDN’t do.

  21. The Mystery of York in the North . Yes York is in the middle of the UK however England ends at Carlisle on the West Coast and Berwick on Tweed on the East Coast above that it is Scotland. So look again York is in the North of ENGLAND not the North of the UK.
