About a year ago I wiped out on my bike. The seatpost slipped down and the bike was thrown out from under me. I'm fine. The frame is fine. Everything was fine. I've been riding the bike since with no problems. But there's been this chip in the carbon fork that my friend pointed out should be a concern.

I know people say carbon has invisible damage. But the wipe out wasn't that bad. Is this damage a cause for concern?

Hard to tell from that shot whether it’s just outer paint or damage to the carbon fibres.
LBS would be able to advise.

At least it was the fork and not the frame, much easier and cheaper to replace. Get it checked out at a bike shop, maybe even remove some of the paint to get it looked at. What might look minor on the surface level could be serious.

  3. It’s a death trap! 💀 Don’t ride that bike again until it has a new fork, professionally installed. Seriously, you’re a dead man riding!

My fork is the only thing carbon fiber on my bike and this worries me. I’m even afraid to jump a curb with my fork 😂😂

One of those “it’s fine until it isn’t” cases and this time it could literally kill you if it fails at the wrong time. I’d replace it.

Seems kind of obvious. New fork day.

A $300 fork beats a hospital visit any day

That’s the issue with Carbon fibers, 1 crash and your bike is a goner.

Ah, it might be alright but it might not be. Hard to tell from the picture. Worth getting a knowledgable opinion about though.

  9. I am now convinced this thread is filled with agents of the bike industry forcing anyone who has the smallest scratch on their bike they have to buy a new one or lose their smile.

I’d replace the fork. It’s cheaper to replace your front fork than your front teeth lol.

No, stop riding this bike immediately. That will crack all the way through and your front wheel can stop spinning and send you flying over the bars face into the ground. And you’ll never wake back up, should really pay more attention to your equipment!
