This is a new bike which has a quite out of true front wheel out of the box. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to get it true using zip ties and a spoke wrench and the manufacturer is sending me a new wheel. However, it's like a week out and I wanted to take this for some rides with the family until then. I'm having a hard time judging if this is safe to ride/acceptable to putter around on green trails with until then. It's definitely not as good as my other bikes but I may have been staring at this too long to make a good judgement.

How badly out of true is this wheel ?

  1. Impossible to tell from your video whether the wheel is out of true, or only the tire is. Lots of tires aren’t perfectly centered, which typically has no bad effects. Regardless, this doesn’t look un-rideably bad to me, assuming no other issues.

    Are all the spokes taut?

Is the tire properly/evenly seated at the bead? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3PSyeRUfsk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3PSyeRUfsk)

You’re showing a tire instead of the rim. Some mountain bike tires have a little wobble in them. If you’re not experienced in wheel truing, learn make sure you’re not making the spoke tension uneven, or you risk weakening the wheel.

That doesn’t look all that bad. You should be able to get that out easily.

Edit: my bad for skimming through, OP.

My answer remains quite similar, though. You should be able to ride that rasily.

How confident are you that your spoke tensions are “correct” now that you’ve spent several hours tightening and loosening them?

The wheel/tire wobble indicates a wheel you can ride on. But that doesn’t say the spokes are all loose or all too tight.
