axle bolts were over tightened by last owner. do they carry these at local hardware stores or do i have to buy direct from trek website? (don’t feel like waiting on shipping)

I’m sure a bike shop will have it, I would be extremely surprised if a hardware store would. Too niche.
Are they stripped on the other side too? If not, they should still be usable until the replacement parts arrive. I would order them from the trek website, google the part number that’s printed on each axle or pull up your bike on the Trek website and it should have a link to a parts list. I highly doubt you will be able to find replacements at a hardware store.
