[Music] welcome to Sant trpe much like many other towns and Villages along the French Riviera this town too began Life as a small fishing Village and today it’s only home to around 4,100 residents thanks to its Glitz and Glam santrape has become something of a celebrity hotspot in the past few decades and now it’s not uncommon to spot famous people hanging out in the many bars Beast Ros and beaches scattered across town in this video we’re going to show you the best things to do in Sant trpe beyond the beaches it’s also a really great time of the year to visit right now in the Early Autumn because twice a year there are riatas that are held here and so in the bay you can see lots of amazing sale boats the one on at the moment is called the r Des s [Music] the port of srae was transformed by Janu fisherman in the 15th century and grew to True prominence during the 18th century thanks to wine cork and Wood Industries [Music] like the majority of towns along the French Riviera much of santrape is cobbled lanes and completely pedestrianized meaning that the easiest way to get around is on your own two [Music] [Music] feet if you break the climb up and you pay a fee of €4 then you’ll get access to the interior of the Citadel which has presided High over sandrap for the past 400 years the Citadel was actually commissioned by the king’s engineer in 1602 and was originally built to ward off Spanish wouldbe Invaders who would come along the provincial Coastline and raid the [Music] place in 599 BCE the fin arrived in what is now provance and founded the first ever City in France which was known as Melia and has since become known as Mar they established outposts all along the coastline in order to defend the area and one of them was what is now Sant Trope at that time it was known as anthopoulos Sant Trope comes from the name of an early Christian martyr by the name of St torz San trop was one of the first towns to be liberated in France during the second world war following the war it was is then that it really came into its own and Drew in lots of movie stars and Painters alike and it’s since become one of the most glamorous places to visit in France it also comes with very high prices and throughout the 20th century as I mentioned many painters came here including [Music] matis since 2013 The Citadel has also been home to a maritime museum so you get to experience lots of the history of sant TR if you do come here [Music] The Maritime Museum is actually much larger than I was expecting and so you’ll want to set aside an hour or two if you’re the kind of person who enjoys reading all of the exhibits in depth [Music] if you have a little more time to spare and wish to enjoy incredible views of the French fora Coastline then I highly recommend heading along the santier gal [Music] the cemetery here is pretty rare in that is one of the few Seaside cemeteries in France like many historic towns in France one of the best ways to get to know Sant Trope is simply to wander along the cobbled lanes and allow it to reveal itself to you for the most part it’s completely pedestrianized so do be sure to wear comfortable shoes [Music] [Music] [Music] when you’re wandering around you’ll noticed that there’s a huge abundance of restaurants cafes I’ve never seen this many in such a small space and one of the main things to do here is to go out for dinner but it’s definitely not a cheap activity all of the food here is way more expensive than other places along the coastline such as niece or M [Music] yet another popular activity in the Oldtown is to go shopping but again this is definitely not an affordable or cheap activity as all of the shops here are luxury high-end designers and you’ll find the kind of things you would find in pland do in Paris [Music] if you want to come to a lively place to hang out then you want to come to plast day lease which is where all of the locals hang out you might even see some people playing patonk which is a local Bull game which was invented just down the coastline in [Music] Cassie until the 18th century Sant Trope was home to the only Port between ATI and too long and today it Still Remains a really fun fixture in the provincial landscape you can see lots of tool boats here during the rata and the rest of the time is very pleasant to wander along as there’s lots of little restaurants where you can enjoy a drink have a meal or simply people watch [Music] sand trape can be a little bit difficult to get to because the roads together are very narrow and congested and you could be waiting a long time to actually access the town after you get there it can also be really hard to find a parking spot and so a really fun way to get there that I definitely recommend is to take the green boat from San macam and so you can drive it in your car park your car somewhere in town there are a few free parking spaces even and then it’s 16 round trip to get the boat and it takes around 15 minutes each way you get amazing views on the way and so I’ll put some of the images on screen [Music] now and now we’re going to end our day by picking up our T Tran which is one of the most famous pigs from the region thank you so much for watching and don’t forget to like And subscribe for more travel content see you next time bye
