If it’s not threaded then it’s probably not for a rack.

TBH I’d still do it, it’s probably fine, just don’t go silly and load heaps of weight. Also don’t be that surprised if it goes wrong.

If you want to see it it will work properly you could fit it with the correct length nut and bolt first. And then, If it’s all good, thread it

  3. Assuming the frame is no longer in warranty then I guess why not. But don’t go with “seems appropriate size”. Get out calipers and make sure. If it is undersized it may need to be reamed, if it is oversized then the bolt could easily tear out.

sorry for not actually answering your question, but can’t you just use a through hole bolt and nut? measure the hole and see what size you can fit there, but considering that most bike racks won’t carry more than 25kg, i doubt the shear force would break m5 steel bolts

  5. So your choices are a.) take away material from a high stress part of a frame, where you have no idea how modifying it will change its structural integrity, with hand tools or b.) spend 40 Euros.

Seems pretty clear cut to me tbh.

Maybe the threads are just filled with paint, as sometimes happens. Would be odd to have a hole there that is not for fenders or racks.

    > Can I add fenders, kickstand and rack?

    > Yes, that is possible. The JARIFA² offers mounting points for fenders, stand and rack. There are fitting spare parts that you can order at your dealer: fender set (Art. number: 890000100, mounting only possible with rack), rack (Art. number: 313030800). For the front light, there are cables already installed in your frame. Your dealer can route them outside and can also connect a rear light to your battery.

  8. Might be OK

But wearing my cycle shop manager hat if you do even if it causes no issues at all you have invalidated warranty on the entire bike

That’s literally a rack hole and it’s usually not threaded, cause most rack holders give your screws and nuts to work with.
There are so many types of racks , some go to the frame inside, some are attached to the outside , some have like an u-joint that covers both sides of the hole.

You can thread it, but most designs won’t need a thread there – a trough bolt and a nut are also giving manufacturers some more tolerance so it fits.

Too many people with no material knowledge in comments. I’m glad that’s the case, life would be hard without dumb people. Let’s go blue collar !)
