Have been doing some looking for a new bike and came across this on Planet Cyclery, would be $1800 with the extra 10% off. Can’t decide if I should get this or a $1899 used Trek Emonda. I’m doing some climbing now but nothing too intense which is why I don’t mind the not climbing bike.

That price is def a steal.
The Trek Emonda (depending on specs) would climb better (emonda is really good at it), but that Vaast is like 1kg heavier, the gearing 33/33 is better for climbing than aero bikes have. Vaast is also better on descent and flat.
If you don’t buy, I will.
edit: just saw the emonda specs, those are entry level. Go Vaast.
And if you get lost you can start a fire with you bike frame and a pocket knife….
I think that’s a great deal. Very unique frame and well spec’ed.
The Vaast is a *much* better bike. Electronic shifting and carbon wheels are nearly unheard of at this price point, and the frame is a very unique and exotic magnesium frame that basically doesn’t exist anywhere else in the industry at the moment.
People hear Emonda and think lightweight, but the SL carbon level is surprisingly porky – more than 1kg for the frame alone, no fork or finishing bits. The Vaast is a bit heavier still (1.25kg claimed), but nowhere near the difference you would expect from seeing a metal frame vs a carbon climbing frame, and the componentry more than make up for it.
Someone else brought up resale value. If you were to look at the brand alone, then yes, it is unfortunately true that Vaast frames don’t hold value as well as Trek or other major brands do. But the componentry on the Vaast is better to such an extent that it could close the gap in terms of resale.
Get the Vaast.
