If one thing is certain on the tour to France, it is that the organizers make Bastile Day very special indeed. A huge public holiday. The crowds were out in force and of course, naturally enough, they were hoping for a French winner or maybe even a French team. Well, it could be a GC battle. That was the big question. How would the day pan out? It’s been such a dramatic race so far. Surely today couldn’t hype that up even further. Our expectations were high just doing the last interviews. He’s the last man to be interviewed today. But I tell you what, the sense here in the paddock is of nervousness, focus. Everybody is expecting today to be a battle. Matteo Jorgensson said to me, today is going to be a wattage festival. Everybody is expecting the most important thing to be is on the front foot. They’re expecting Bismab bike to maybe go early. Yui is saying they’re going to be a little bit on the defense here, but they’re going to have to to adapt their strategy because the loss of Xiaoa and all that means is that today it’s going to be chaos. There’s a slim opportunity for the break today, but I think this could be one of the most exciting and thrilling days in this tour to France so far. It’s all in ahead of the rest day. A big what’s day then? What’s the strategy of UA team Emirates? Likewise, what’s Vista Lisa Bike going to do? What’s a breakaway going to do? How would it pan out? One look at the parkour told you everything you needed to know. Absolutely crammed full of climbs. This was bound to hurt. 4,500 m of altitude gain. No climb higher than a category 2. Lot of points up for grabs out there for the polka dot jersey competition, but also a battle royale. Whether it be from a break or amongst the GC or maybe both. Just look at it. A broken chainsaw waiting to do damage. [Music] Christian Pomon flagged us away and indeed it was a very rough and tough tumbling start you might say just to get yourself up and in the breakaway. Didn’t take that long for some ambitions to be displayed but it took a while before we finally got our incarnation of the day. Those up the road were going to be in a very very select group you might think. Well, there’s 29 of them. That is an enormous quadrant if you will of fighting force coming from all angles. And what of Taliba? Well, he knew that he was going to come under pressure from Vismaike. It was a question of how and when. Bad news for him. Civikov was in trouble. Looking not very well. Stacked up with bottles just to get home and make the time gap. Making the mountains points was Lenny Matinez who found himself in the break. He was in very good company. [Applause] Ben O Connor of course was there. A man who’s lost time in the opening week of this race but is such high quality. You knew that there would be a day where he would feature and this was to be just that. Well, the breakaway of 29 started to whittle down to some of the days favorites I think for a stage win. Meanwhile, the palatin itself was starting to fracture and some very good riders were being tagged off the back. Meanwhile, Lenny Martinez was helping himself to Mountains Points and indeed slotted into the jersey. It would belong to him at the end of the day. While the gaps were there to see, Alfie had been lively early on, was backing out with a group formerly of the breakaway that were now in no man’s land between a pelin and an ever more select group up front. Um were doing their best to pace. Martinez was still polka dot hungry. Ben Healey on his wheel checking over the shoulder and wondering and we were wondering when he might have a dig. Well, it was about now similar distance from the day he’d won Healey of course had won into V. How would he go today? Well, with some very strong riders around him, they kind of lent on him more than just a little bit. Okconor was there. Healey likewise and a few others as well. still scrapping for mountains points, but we were starting now to think about the possibility of Healey going into yellow. I know just shy the 4-minute mark he was at the beginning of the day. There were others here in an ever more distilled, if you will, effective breakaway, such as Quinn Simmons. He kept kicking and in the end, I’m afraid he kicked the bike from underneath him. Metaphorically, you might say. Meanwhile, Bismissabite were trying to put the hurt on Taliba. He was just keeping arrow laser locked onto Yonas Vingo’s wheel. And every time they tried something, it didn’t matter who it was, whether it was Matthew Jurgensson, the American, who of course had seen Simon Yates and Campon, their teammates up the road as well. A quintet then, a sex tet, you might say, as they got to this point. Not for long as Quinn Simmons, I’m afraid, left just five up ahead of him as they pushed on. 10.8 kilometers to go and suddenly there was a battle raging further down the mountains. Talipatcha was under pressure, but he was matching absolutely everything. Still looked fresh even though it fried all of his teammates during the day. The gap still said Healey might make it, but would there be a spark of energy from those behind? Of course, it was Visma Lisa that kicked on. Bugga slotted in. Bingigo stayed with him. Meanwhile, up front, Visma had implanted Simon Yates and Konat in the break. And now it was time for Yates to have a go. Healey starting to struggle. He put so much into the day, kind of cleared his mind as to who was around him. He wanted yellow. Yates wanted a stage victory. Okconor was going backwards at this point. And the nearest man to Simon Yates was Teiman Arensman. Further back down behind was of course Deli Pukatcha and Yonis Fvingo. We were waiting to see their battle start to rage. Yates crossed the line to take the stage win. Genius the Jiro Ditalia champion adding a tour to France stage win to so much that he’s achieved in his life. Ironsman crossing the line in second place and then Ben Healey and the clock began to count. 31 seconds of course with a a bonus of four going to his name and Talipaja set off. Joining him of course was Jonas Vingo. He was waiting and then suddenly he realized as the clock told him he was in yellow. Bag across the line. Vingo said well done. And we indeed appreciated what had been a super dramatic day of what has already been one of the most exciting tours to France we have witnessed. Yates and Healey the winners on the day. Healey in yellow. Yates of course our stage winner. What a day it turned out to be. The breakaway got there. Yeah, it’s been a long time. Um yeah, but actually I also was not really expecting any opportunities here. Of course, we came here uh fully focused on on on Yonas and and the GC. So um yeah, the stage stage played out um in a way that I could be there for the for the stage and yeah, I took took it with both hands. He certainly did. Brilliant work by the Juran Italian champion. Healey though is in yellow. Yeah, it’s exactly that. It’s a it’s a fairy tale, you know. Uh yeah, I mean if like I just said, if you if you told me this before the tour, I think I I wouldn’t have believed you, you know. So stage win and yellow jersey is it’s just yeah, incredible and uh beyond belief really. He just keeps doing it. This is the climbing competition. Le Martinez 27 points. He started the day with two. So he’s in polka dots helping France celebrate Bastile Day. Truly remarkable heading into the rest day after a huge 10 stage introduction to this year’s event. What lies ahead? A sprinter’s day into Tuloo, but some lumpy stuff at the end so you can never discount a breakaway. The auto camp still to come, time trials and of course ultimately the high ground. This has been an amazing tour of to France. We take a day off, reather ourselves, and then we fight again. Wow. [Music]

  1. They’ll be celebrating on the streets of Wordsley in the West Midlands tonight. Oh come on, he’s about as Irish as fellow Brummie Dan Martin!

  2. Yates, the Surgical Poet

Simon Yates did not attack: he executed. With the precision of a Swiss watchmaker and the melancholy of an English violinist, he launched his offensive at the precise moment, when the slopes of the Massif Central became confessionals of suffering. There were no theatrics or heroic gestures. Only certain pedal strokes, like verses polished with conscience by a Byron of the heights.

His solitary arrival at Mont-Dore was that of a poet who, after crossing out a verse a thousand times, finally finds the perfect form. The thermal waters that sprang during the Roman Empire seemed to bless his triumph, while the peaks of Puy de Sancy – that volcanic giant of 1,885 meters that has dominated the Massif Central for three million years – served as silent witness to his ballet of steel and will.

  3. What in the World is wrong with UAE ? Or what Blunder strategy were they thinking ? Or is Jonas and Visma much stronger and is Tadej Tired and UAE Domestiques just not capable ? Horrible stage for UAE . Visma is clearly the better and stronger team by Miles .

  4. Great to see Healy in yellow for a bit, he earned it. Chapo to Yates as well. Breaking Tadej will be like breaking a block of granite with your hands this year, but Visma will undoubtedly make him earn every mile.

  5. why did tadej and jonas let the other gc riders (evenepoel and lipo) come back after the attack close to the finish, doesn't make any sense?! would have been 10-15 seconds without much more effort.

  6. Now where are those guys who always criticizing tadej everytime he wins and take the yellow jersey they say he is in doping 😂 how about the others like visma hos they look after the finishline huh.?

  7. Great to see Ben Healy in Yellow…but can't help thinking that if Pogacar wanted to retain it..he had plenty in the tank to do so…cruised the last 1k

  8. Amazing series of FAT "hairpin turns" Monday (today)!!
If anyone drove between Creede and Lake City, Colorado (30+ miles 50km away from me), they understand what I am thinking about.
    🎉🎉🎉🎉

  9. And VISMA shifted their attention to Healy and put pressure again to Remco and Jonas. Pogacar can easily re-acquire the yellow due to his small gap to Healy. VISMA need to double their exert effort. Pogacar can now sit behind Healy to have an alliance considering Sivakov and Almeida were gone😂😂😂

  10. This is intended to be constructive criticism. These highlights are better than the Tour de France channel highlights (which are all drama and no content), but it's barely understandable. I feel like the script is written from the point of view of someone who watched the race and can't understand that people watching these highlights have not watched the race. "The gaps are visible for all to see". No they aren't. Not at all. I don't see gaps. I see a line of riders. Where are they in the race? At the top of the peloton? At the top of the breakaway? Somewhere else? No idea? If I even had a few names of riders who were in the breakaway, I could at least understand what I'm seeing. But no. No information at all. I get that TNT wants people to subscribe, pay money and watch the race, but I don't think they intend the highlights to be this free of understandable content. I also understand that it's hard to pull together a highlight package on a deadline and I don't want to seem ungrateful. However, I've just given up entirely. I can't make head nor tail of what happened in the race from these highlights. The only content that I can comprehend are the results and results are everywhere. I hope this can help you improve in the future. For now, I won't be returning. Even if it's only 10 minutes of wasted time, it's still a waste of time to watch these highlights for me.
