Advice on the Pamirs and Silk Road (3 month trip)

Hi guys,

I’m about to embark on a 3 month trip starting in Tashkent, travelling through the Pamirs via Kyrgyzstan, then into Uzbekistan, across the Caspian, Caucuses and finishing in Turkey.

I was wondering if anyone had done this journey recently, and had any advice to offer, particularly on the Pamirs as this will be the first part of my journey.

My current blind spots are cooking – how often are there guest houses and how often were you cooking – and borders – how did you find various border crossings? However, I’d be keen for advice on anything – what shocked you about bikepacking in Central Asia, and what was mandatory equipment that might not be part of a standard packing list?
