I have no idea how this happened. How big of a deal is this, and should I have the front wheel replaced? This front wheel has a power-generating hub, and replacing it will cost a fortune. Is there any way I can repair these scratches on my own?

You wouldn’t have to replace the whole wheel, just lace your existing spokes and hub to the new rim.
