Route and direction advice Hamburg – Odense (Denmark)

Looking for some advice on route and direction of travel for Hamburg – Odense (Denmark). A Danish cycling website seems to suggest the red line (ferries involved obviously) while others seems to primarily suggest the black line (left). Distance is fairly similar for both.

Also, for the purposes of getting a predominant wind, which direction would be best? Start in Odense or Hamburg? (August travel).

My riding type is leisurely (30-50km / day) and supplement overnighters with hotels/BnBs so the optimal route for camping is not important.
