The air seems to be coming from the seem.
I had to straighten a dented rim as it wasn’t holding air. It pops to seat but not as loud as normal.
If the rim is cracked would air come from the seam here? It’s not coming from the spokes. Could this just be a retaking that has to be done?
Is my aluminum rim gone?

That just looks like the wheel seam. I would retape and try again and see what happens.
It’s the seam of the aluminum wheel. If your sealant isn’t cutting it, try more tubeless tape around the area
If that wheel takes a tube, the rim is fine..the air is leaking through the rim seam.
If the tire is tubeless..you’ll have to figure out how to seal that area better.
it’s kind of hypnotizing the way you touch it
That’s a seam it’s normal. Your rim tape is the issue
Fixed this same issue w either the smallest possible slice of tape on the affected area, or just making sure that there was sealant literally on either side of the tire bead. Conti racekings on wtb PEES (533d). Best of luck.
I would check that when straightening the debt you didn’t gouge the tape and create a tear/hole. In that case just retape.
If the dent was right on the seam and that is where you fixed it, it is probably a bigger issue related to that.
Has anyone ever tried to take a small strip of rim tape and use it across the rim to cover the seam before using the rest of the rim tape to go around the rest of the rim?
I don’t consider any pinned rim to be tubeless compatible… but I’ve been successful at replacing the tape.
My method is to remove the tape, clean the rim carefully with acetone (it will not damage carbon or aluminum but may disturb decals and/or paint) and replace the tape with some wide enough to go bead hook to bead hook. Cut out the valve hole and install a tire and tube. Inflate for at least half a day.
Remove the tube, install the valve and set the bead then fill with fluid
Thank you everyone. There was a small rip in the rim tape elsewhere, away from the dents strangely. Maybe me using levers to put the tire back on. Seems fixed after patching tape over it.
Yes, it would have been best to redo all the tape but I didn’t have any wide enough.
JB weld.
Just saying: this would work perfectly if you ran a tube. /s… but: true.
As is: looks like the tape needs to be re-done, possibly with wider tape.
