I'd like to address the rust on this front rack, but I'm hung up on how to approach the spring hinge.
My goal is to achieve a smooth finish coating(chrome or zinc). I know I could just superficially treat the rust, but then I'm left with a pitted surface. If I strip the coating then, how would I go about re-coating it? Wouldn't I have to disassemble completely to ensure thorough coverage? This would mean removing the hinge spring-which looks peened in place. I'm unsure where to begin with that.
Advice? Am I overthinking it?
