I replied the below in response to a post where the OP mentioned that they could only locate the pedal about 33% of the time when clicking into the fitting. I had the same problem until I was set right, it now works for that OP and I thought I’d pass it on.
Hold the largest diameter part of the pedal close to the male fitting (see photo), between your thumb and first finger. Slightly twist the pedal as you mate it with the fitting and your success rate will increase significantly – I’m now over 90% success rate.

If anyone has a fix for stopping the removable pedal in its transport holder from scratching the mudguard, I’d appreciate that. I currently use a clear protective patch on the mudguard.
