Tune-up and patience with the saddle. Although brooks was a game changer for me right out the box, most comfort ever. Maybe you need one with a pressure relief cutout?

Rough or clunky? Those old square tooth free wheels where never super smooth compared to a modern cassette. But I like riding the clunking sound of them sometimes.
