Since the 1700s, the people of Dalarna have been searching for gas and oil in the lake Siljan area, but have only found small and unprofitable amounts.
🌲 In the mid-1800s, a company drilled a 50-meter-deep hole beside the Enån stream. No oil came up, but instead groundwater under high pressure in the bedrock.
💦 The water is still flowing today, and in winter it forms a beautiful ice sculpture from the stream.
🚴♀️ This natural fountain is now called ”Springkällan” and is located in the Enån Nature Reserve in Rättvik. From IK Jarl, both cycling and hiking trails go around Enån. There is also parking just 150 meters from Springkällan, and right nearby there is a rest area with a fire pit.

This is Spring Shell. Come with me on a little excursion. Would you believe me if I were to tell you that this fountain isn’t driven by a pump? Well, let me tell you more about it. The people of Donova had been searching for oil and gas since the 1700s, but they never really found any profitable amount. In the mid 1800s, a company drilled a 50 m hole next to A&L, but no oil came up. Instead, they hit pressurized groundwater and it’s been spraying ever since.
