In 300 meters, the wild beasts are released towards Bayeux. Kilometer zero is visible, as is the silhouette of Christian Prud’homme getting out of his race control car. The riders are preparing to leave Bayeux. Heading for Vire. Vire-Normandy for this stage. Bayeux, which is a unique stage town. Moreover, the sub-prefecture of Calvados and its 12,800 inhabitants gave a fitting welcome to the start of this Tour de France. Kevin Vauquelin was celebrating. Today, he’s racing on home soil. We also pass by Guillaume Martin-Guyonnet’s home turf. All these riders, and many more, are eager to shine today. Kilometer zero, the actual start of this sixth stage, heading towards Vire. See you in 201.5 kilometers to find out the winner of this stage. This is going to be an exciting time to follow. Watch out, it’s going to be rough. Jonathan Milan finds himself in second place. We already anticipated this little blip. Groves in the wheel of Biniam Guirmay’s pilot fish and Kaden Groves who will launch Van der Poel. He will launch Van der Poel. He used to launch Philipsen. Now, he will launch the former Yellow Jersey holder. We will have to accelerate against Soni. He will let Jonathan Milan do it alone. He’s nice, Van der Poel. He left room for Jonathan Milan. The sprint between Jonathan Milan on one side, Biniam Guirmay on the other, the Eritrean or the Italian, unless Mathieu Van der Poel manages to come back. For now, advantage still goes to Jonathan Milan. And it’s Jonathan Milan who will go for the 20 points ahead of Mathieu Van der Poel, ahead of Biniam Girmay. Come on, against Quinn Simmons, Ben Healy, Julien Alaphilippe, they are ready. And a rider from the Decathlon AG2R world team too. Isn’t that Bruno? The Astana team got caught out. They’re the ones who are already riding. Yet, it was technical. After this intermediate sprint, it was going to be over. Intermediate sprint won by Jonathan Milan. And Quinn Simmons’s start with Ben Healy in his wheel. The US champion, the Irishman. They want it to start now. Where is Julian? Julian, he was there, not far from Quinn Simmons, not far from Ben Healy, they don’t want to go it two-up. Ben Healy turned around. He said to himself: Just with Simmons, it’s still complicated. And it’s Bruno behind. It’s the second real start of this stage. It hurts. We see them in front, we say to ourselves: Are you okay? Just look at the number of riders already dropped, the number of riders in difficulty at the back of the peloton to clearly show that this five-kilometer climb has caused some… As we had said, only 3.7% over 5 kilometers, which are my seven. Côte du Mont-Pinçon must have caused some damage and will be felt in the kilometers to come, because the battle was fierce between those who wanted to overtake those who were already in front, and everyone lost a lot of bullets. And the mountain points, who will they be for? Hirshi is trying to get them and get the pace back up. Quinn Simmons has some left. He’ll follow. Ivan Roméo is there too. There’s Lenny Martínez who’s not far behind, but will he be able to catch up with all these people? Like a sly guy, he’ll sit down. He sat down again, and it will be for the US champion. Quinn Simmons, who’s going to take the lead ahead of Marc Hirschi and Ivan Roméo. Michael Woods, fourth, but there were only two points and one point to take. So they’re for Quinn Siemmons and for Marc Hirschi. Regrouping and Ben Healy is going back. Quinn Simmons, he must be close by. No, it’s Bastien. It’s Bastien Tronchon who’s there. Yes, it’s Bastien Tronchon. Good call. Bastien Tronchon is going on the attack. He’s been quiet since the start of the lap. Bastien Tronchon discovering himself on the Côte de la Rancunière. He had his map today. Bastien Tronchon is now attacking with Ben Healy in pursuit. We are on the second listed climb of the day, the Côte de la Rançonière, 2.2 kilometers at 7.9%. Attention, gentlemen, save some for the summit because the final section is still quite steep. From this Côte de la Rançonière, we have 10.13% over the last 800 meters. We’re busy there, aren’t we? Jacky, we’re busy. Right now, we have the general classification currents. Look, we have all the general classification riders. Tim Wellens, Tadej Pogacar’s teammate, Kevin Vauquelin is here, Jonas Vingegaard, Jörgenson are here, it’s time. If you’re here, you’re… But you have to be here. It’s time. It’s time. At the summit, you put one in. Wood, he understood that. Wellens, he wants points too. Tim Wellens, he wants to get points. Tim Wellens, he’s going to get points. Third-category summit. Then, Quinn Simmons ahead of Marc Hirshi in the Côte du Mont-Pinceau. In the Côte de la Ransonnière. We have two points for Tim Wellens and one point for Michael Woodes, we’re 45th. I think there are plenty of riders who have dropped out, who, this morning, had the ambition to join the breakaway. After 50 kilometers, they’re saying to themselves: No, we’re not going to go there. It’s Kevin. It’s Kevin Vauquelin who is attacking the pursuit of Ben Healy. Let ‘s look at the attitude of the peloton. Are we going to let a Kevin Vauquelin slip away today? In any case, Pogacar didn’t follow. No. He’s here, but for now, he’s not worried about Kevin Vauquelin, Kevin Vauquelin, he’s looking at who’s going. What health, this Ben Healy, what health. Ben and Simmons, both of them. If it continues like this, we didn’t get a fighting spirit award a few days ago. Now, we’ll have to give two. One to Each, one to Quinn Siemmons and one to Ben Healy, they’re livening up this stage for us. Yeah, because we’re laughing about it with Jacky saying: This is the moment, this is the moment. But to have that moment, you need the cane. There’s no one up front who’s spinning in the wheels, who’s saying to themselves: No, but me, tactically, I waited. No, there, there are only 45 of them in this group. It’s crazy. Let’s remind ourselves of the average, almost 50 an hour. We’ve done almost 1,000 meters of elevation gain. They’re pretty impressive. And Van der Poel is moving. There you go. That’s the peloton! Look ahead, there it is, it’s coming out. It’s starting to go. Only twelfth on the stage. He still lost 1 minute 19 seconds to Remco Evenepoel. Look. Look at the little game with the attack. Now, the recovery of Matteo Jorgenson and Mathieu Van der Poel, who follows immediately. Uh… Mathieu Van der Poel: Tadej Pogacar who follows immediately. The composition of the breakaway, the first to have a lead of more than 30 seconds on the peloton after more than an hour of racing. Here it is, and it is once again thanks to Ben Healy and Quinn Simmons that this breakaway has formed. We also find Harold Tejada, Will Barta and Mathieu Van der Poel. Simon Yates is watching. Simon Yates attacked while monitoring what was happening behind and how the peloton was reacting. Meanwhile, the UAE, they continue. Yeah, Warren Barguil, explosion. Yeah. Explosion and junction, certainly in a moment, for Michael Stohrer, who will make the jump. And Ben Healy, again at the front. Ben Healy who is doing the work. We will have some fighters tonight. Behind, it doesn’t switch off, it doesn’t get up and neither does the front. We obviously continue to collaborate. We also find Will Barta, the rider from the Movistar team, who is there in the first positions, the one we had followed on the roads of the Tour de Suisse before the start of the Tour de France. He notably finished in the top 10 of the final time trial. With Will Barta, we find Quinn Simmons, also brilliant on the roads of the Tour de Suisse, where he went to get a stage victory on the third day alone in a breakaway. We find Mathieu Van der Poel, stage winner in Boulogne-sur-Mer, wearing the yellow jersey for two days. A yellow jersey that could very well very well find this evening. He has a good chance, in any case, that he finds it again. Michael Storer, who was present on the roads of the last, Giro d’Italia, is also at the front. Michael Storer, the Australian of La Tudor, tenth in the last Giro d’Italia. Moreover, he has not ridden a single race since the Giro, it is his return to competition. We also find Harold Tejada, Simon Yates, Ben Healy, and poor Mathieu Burgodeau. Who’s back up. He’s back up. Mathieu Burgodeau, he’s going to be caught by the front of the peloton now. 80 kilometers from the finish. Look at the gap because it’s significant. He’s now flirting with two minutes. It’s starting to look like he could potentially escape. Come on, we’re at the foot of the leader. Of this 1.7-kilometer difficulty. The Côte de Mortain. Remember that Quinn Simmons took the lead on the first difficulty of the day, a category 3 climb. Ben Healy in the lead. It’s Dunbar who will go for the points at the summit. Dunbar who will take the lead in this Coupe de Mortain. Ahead of Ben Healy , he doesn’t even take a point, Quinn Simmons. He wants to win the stage. Maybe. He feels very good. He wants to save his energy. He will focus on the stage victory. It must be said that he’s done a lot, though. The Côte du Juvigny, which now stands before the rider, is a new climb listed in this stage, as you can see. There’s still one more to tackle for the riders. Then the finish. And be careful, because the finish, which shouldn’t be overlooked, isn’t listed in the mountain classification; there are no climbers. And yet, it’s the equivalent of Saint-Hillaire, which was climbed before arriving in Rouen 48 hours ago. It’s convenient; it’s 100 meters shorter, but the gradients are the same. The left turn, the closing left, we should say. It went well for the peloton. Dunbar, still in first position. Michael Storer, he’s hesitant to go for it. Yates too. Look, Michael Storer, he’s going for it. He’s not just going for the stage win today, Théo. Michael Storer is going to be the climber and Dunbar sees him in a second phase. He reacts now. And there, we have a real sprint. He will score a point. Yes, a point for… And Dunbar, everyone shares the points. Simmons who had scored two points on Mont-Vincent. And Dunbar, there, Mortain who scored two points. And there, it is now Storer in front of Dunbar . A little over two kilometers ago, Ben Healy broke away from the peloton. Ben Healy left alone from the peloton. From the breakaway, of course. Ben Healy left alone. We had climbed a few moments before. One of the difficulties proposed on the route of this stage. We will show you this image again. There was the Côte de Juvigny with its summit 37 kilometers from the finish in the descent that followed a few moments later. In a slightly uphill section in the kilometers that followed this Côte de Juvigny, Ben Healy left alone. Come on, a little difficulty there for Ben Healy at the Côte de Saint-Michel-de-Montjoie small, small. It’s long, with less gradient, but we can imagine that some climbers are trying to get out, why not. We’re 30 kilometers from the finish. And a new difficulty arises in front of Ben Healy in Saint-Michel-de-Montjoie, he turns around. Ben Healy, and he practically has a minute. This annoys Quinn Simmons. The power. He was out first with Ben Healy in this stage, and Quinn Simmons is going back alone now. You can’t hear it, too bad. I’ll continue without you. The US champion who places this start, and this time, Simon Yates, he’s going for it. Experience. Tejada, he’s not going to like it. He’s not going to… Yes, he’s still there, Tejada, unless he hides his game. It’s going to be tough, it’s going to be tough, this finale. Still, Ben Healy Quinn Simmons made up 10 seconds on this climb, he’s really hurting them. Michael Storer is managing to keep up, but the others are stalling slightly. We might see a duo chasing Ben Healy Quinn Simmons and Michael Storer. It’s Mathieu Van der Poel, behind, who has to do the work. But be careful, because since leaving Lille on Saturday, Mathieu Van der Poel has already done a lot. I’m not sure he has the resources to bring this group back to the front of the race alone, or at least not to the counter-attack group. He has just over 30 minutes of effort left to claim victory here in Normandy. Can we call it a Jacky Durand-style victory or not? We could call it a number one. In any case, Jacky, it’s the kind of victory you love. Yes, obviously, I love it. Obviously, we love attacking riders who are sometimes willing to take risks, who are capable of going all in, because it was still a costly risk for Ben Healy to attack so far from the finish line. It’s not over, of course, but for now, the trend is to see the IF rider continue to make up time. Yes, a minute ago. There were 50 seconds just now at the top of Saint-Michel-de-Montjoie, he has gained another 10 seconds on this duo who, all the same, seem to get along well and listen to what the sporting director of the Tudor team is saying behind. Storer. You are very strong. You are very strong. Let’s go, but you are very strong. But for now, there is a rider who is stronger at the front. It’s Ben Healy, there is another small false flat , yes. 12 kilometers from the finish. As we enter the bend. The particularity of this finale is that we’re going towards Vire, we’re going to enter Vire before turning to reach the Côte de Vaudry. We’re going to come out slightly from Vire to reach this Côte de Vaudry, the summit of which will be 4,400 kilometers away. And then, we’re going to turn again into Vire. Less than 5 kilometers. Ben Healy has it. His first victory on the Tour. Things are going very well for Ben Healy; I expected at one point to see him a little stubborn. Even there, we saw him on sections at 10%, at 8% there at the summit. It’s always at over 20 km/h. He’s doing Ben Healy; we have the impression that Ben Healy, if there are still 30 kilometers to go, he can do them. Truly incredible. The number here, he’s going to be able to take advantage of a lot of advances to raise his arms and go and win this magnificent victory. Here in Vire, two-time Irish champion Ben Healy won the Giro. That was two years ago now, in 2023. Ben Healy had put on a show. That day, there were more than a dozen riders in the breakaway. So, he was afraid, afraid of being beaten, afraid of running into someone stronger than him. He had attacked that day 50 kilometers from the finish. Today, there weren’t a dozen riders. There were a few fewer, but there were some big names. There was Simon Yates, the winner of the Giro, there was Mathieu Van der Poel, there was Harold Tejada. There was Quinn Simmons. Ben Healy, once again, took the lead. And Ben Healy set off, alone with 43 km to go in this stage here in Vire, Normandy. After winning the Giro, Ben Healy wins another Grand Tour, this time in the greatest race in the world. Ben Healy takes the sixth stage of the Tour de France solo and by far. Tenth professional victory for Ben Healy , a true figure, a tough guy, a figure like few riders are capable of. A figure a bit like Jacky Durand, in the end. In any case, the panache that Jacky Durand likes in a rider. Yes, first attacker of the day. He analyzed everything well. We’ll see his positioning in the intermediate sprint again. Hats off. From start to finish, he would have been the strongest today. A recital, a recital from Ben Healy . No one knew how to react to his attack. No one was able to react to his attack. No one was able to follow the Irishman. 200 meters to go. And Michael Storer who will sprint after him. The Australian who will try to take second place, but the American doesn’t hear that aura. He has strength, he has strength, Quinn Simmons. He’s breaking him, Michael Storer. He’s going to sit down. He’s going to sit down, Storer. We’re not going to do anything to him, Quinn Simmons, after having done so much today, too. What strength Quinn Simmons has, second. He could have regrets because given the strength and the form Quinn Simmons has displayed, he could have been able to play something very big today with Ben Healy when the latter left. Third place for Michael Storer. We’ll find Dunbar next, another Irishman. Yes, it’s time for it to end. Obviously, within the peloton, things have changed a lot. There were no attacks within the peloton, but we accelerated with a lot of riders from the Visma team, the UE… And now, he wants to go for the jersey. I think Van der Poel quickly understood that he couldn’t win the stage today, but he will be rewarded with the yellow jersey and will also become, I think, leader of the green jersey. One minute zero five now that Mathieu Van der Poel has crossed the finish line. That climb hurt. It hurt a lot. 100 meters to go. 100 meters for Mathieu Van der Poel to take the yellow jersey. Less than 100 meters. Tadej Pogacar who is forced to sprint. Pogacar who is going for it. One minute 24, 1 minute 25, 1 minute 26, 1 minute 27. For one second. To be confirmed. Maybe for one second, he’ll keep his jersey. Ben Healy, we had some breath today. Ben Healy who wins this sixth stage here in Vire, we’ll debrief all that in a moment. Quinn Simmons comes in to take second place. So it’s Mathieu Van der Poel who will inherit this yellow jersey! He’ll find him again in this 2025 edition, Mathieu Van der Poel, Jacky, only for one second. Incredible.

  4. Such wonderful commentating! I view the English subtitles as I can only understand French partially, but even so, one can feel the enthusiasm and energy of the French commentators, including Jacky Durand.

  5. Pogi was sitting on the final climb while everyone was out of the saddle. And once Tadej got out of the saddle, he dropped everyone before easing off (he did this to show who's boss).
