A brutal day in the tour to France. Easy on the pedals for the most part before the sprint finished, but a lot of crashes, including one of the stars of the race from Valencia to Dunkerk. 178ks long. This could have been a crosswind stage if the wind direction was a bit different, but it’s strong wind 25 ks an hour, but mostly headwind all day. One category 4 climbed the Monasel before a flat sprint finish with Ben’s a chicane rain at the start for Tatt Paga in the polka dots. And no one wants to go on the breakaway because of the wind. I guess because there’s a potential breakaway stage tomorrow because a lot of these teams want to get uh their sprinters to have a chance to go for a result even though we have Milan, Malia, and Philips here. So Malia is kind of laughing that it’s an easier stage to control than they thought. They put Vstringer, Alperson on the front, and Shakman for quickstep. Uh and at 78ks to go, it was a lot more relaxed today for the most part, especially for the GC teams. There wasn’t as much fighting for every corner, but at the intermediate sprint with about 60ks to go. Unfortunately, there’s a nasty crash. Cockard is on the right of Milan here. Edward Turns is the sweeper on Milan’s wheel. He’s trying to stop Phillips and others getting Milan’s wheel. Cockard decelerates here and sli he’s trying to slide onto Milan’s wheel and get his draft. That squeezed to a bit and then Cockard changes gear here into a heavier gear and becomes a little bit unstable. Uh the leadouts go left, Cockard goes left, which it looks like he’s trying to keep Phillips in box like the other sprint. But then when Milan launches his sprint, he doesn’t move right that far. He launches it. Yeah. I mean, just a normal amount, I guess. Just the bike moving to his right. But now Cockard’s being squeezed on his right from Rex. Philipsson is going to shoot the gap to Milan’s wheel because his leadout’s going to peel off Kaden Groves. And then Cockard, he hit the wheel of Milan, went too far right and then he got pinched by Rex and then can cannoned into Philipsson and crashed. Also, Masar and Israel rider went into the ditch over there. You can see the wind is still pretty strong. Milan wins the intermediate, but uh Cockard’s understandably upset about it. Uh, Philipsson I think broke his cloud dislocated fracture or something of his clavicle and but a really really heavy crash. Rickart was really letting Cockard know what he thought about it and it’s a racing incident. Are the riders kind of to blame still? Yeah. And um Cockard got a yellow card. Turns got a yellow card when he was sweeping Milan’s wheel and we move on. But now without the green jersey favorite. I mean Philips would have won green. He would have won green. He’s too consistent. the lead out was too good and he’s too versatile. He makes almost every sprint finish. He was only 30 seconds back yesterday. Rickard was talking about what was going on. But Wellins, he then asks the others, can I go and get a K point? There’s one one point available on the category for Mon Cel. That’s because he’s one point behind Pagatcha. And then he can go into the polka dot jersey for a day if he takes the point, the Pelaton. But here’s why teams stay at the front. there’s a crash or coming together at the front here and then the domino effect of that causes a crash deeper in the pelatons. So that’s why there’s like hot zones for crashes and I guess it’s in that last third if you’re still drafting really closely. That’s what happened a couple of riders go down there. Here we have Moel Wellins takes the K point. That’s where Benjamin Tomar crashed the other day that same point. Then he waits dutifully for the Pelaton who Yeah, crazy. We didn’t have a breakaway all day. I guess tomorrow there should be a bigger break fight, but now Alperson have to regroup. What are they going to do? Well, they have Kaden Groves here for the sprint. He was the last man for Yasa Phillipsson, but he’s won 10 Grand Tour stages himself. Quickstep a lot better today. We have UAE, Vizma, Alperson, the three strongest teams the last three days. On the front left, as we look at it, they’re in position with Paga, Vinger Co., but they’re on the wrong side of this roundabout. The right side is quicker and then trek cross over to the left hand side afterwards. It’s at 11ks to go. So we got 5k to go is the safety zone. If there’s crashes uh in this stage and Pagatcha very quickly decides I’m not going to fight and get back to the front. I’m going to go to the back with my teammates around me. Leave space. It’s going to be more dangerous to go ahead. You see Vingard, he kind of tries to start getting back to the front in the middle, but now the sprinters teams are all there. There’s no space to move up. It’s not like with 30ks to go when it was a bit more relaxed and then about 20 seconds after Pagatcha he gets on the radio and says I’m just going to go to the back and see this one out. Which probably the right thing to do. I mean you got Wanty on the right, Trek on the left. That’s two sprint trains. Quickstep is half a sprint train. Natia Katano does a perfect job. I mean if you’re in front this is the best place to be. You got Remco even they got it right today with Katano in front of him and it also gives a train to Malia. So Malia is kept in good position, kept fresh. 5ks to go. Ramco pulls off and Malia and B van Leber kind of have to freelance, but Merier has lost the wheel of uh his lead out man uh in the corner coming up. We see waves upon waves though headwind sprint and so lot go to the front too early. But here we see the another crash where there’s Py on behind or to the left of uh Gronov and Gronovan should probably take the free space to the right of his lead out. Akaman tries to shoot the gap in between Bora and Tre. There is no gap and he hits Py’s right hip or Mayos right hip I think Mayos right hip and then Mayos goes down. So yeah, Akaman Mer wasn’t happy with him after the sprint today and he yeah shooting a gap that kind of didn’t exist there and then there was another crash. A few Inos guys caught up in it as well as Clemon Berte Remco also went down. Roglish is probably saying to him I know something about crashing on stage three of the tour to France in the north of France. Uh which I think he did in was it Cobberelli put him into the gravel in 21 or was that on stage four? Anyway, Gupama FDJ Lewis Aski, one of the best riders in positioning in the whole world. Uh he gets Penway into good position there. Fedov on the front. He was also good in the classics this year. The Kazak National Champion for a starter, but then it’s all a mess. Trek have got a good train together as well as Picnic. They’re the two best teams here uh that organized for this sprint. Picnic are in the perfect spot because Trek are a bit early. Headwind sprint, Milan’s third wheel. They can bully Arkaman off Milan’s wheel, but they hesitate a little bit in changing to Lundandre before Bitner. Uh, but still like 900 to go. Normally, you won’t get through five different leadout men at this point. Merier though, he shoots from the back. Crazy. The way he freelanced in the last K. It was impossible to win with this track lead out and then Picnic going over the top. It was impossible for Merier to win, but he made it possible. Picnic come late. Uh, Milan has to get back up to speed to get onto Bitner’s wheel. Huge crash, which I’ll show in the overhead. Another crash. Milan launches with about 200. Malia comes out of the slipstream. At this camera angle, I thought he’s already got his bike ahead, but with the bend and Milan coming back on him. Malia wins. He put his hand up straight away, but here you see Van Ppple and Ballerini fighting for the wheel of Akaman who’s with behind Venshold. Van Pppel then goes back to the wheel of Bow House. That actually would have been the fastest line because Bow House comes third. So he should have just followed Bow House, but he’s looking for the open space. So he tries to jump left to follow Akaman on the open space and then that yeah, that crashes Ballerini. Third yellow card for Van Ppple this year. It just goes to show that the system is a little bit too lenient when you’re getting that many yellow cards. But yeah, Milan launched and what a great battle between the two of them. We had this inve this year. These two are just a cut above the rest apart from Yasa Phillipsson who’s obviously no longer in the race and Molier wins it by the width of his rim even less. Ahead of Milan Bow House then varium Kaden Groves Dian Pop Akan and Kabio. Who’s the green jersey favorite now? It’s probably Johnny Milan with Vanderpool not going for the intermediate sprints or final sprints. Hope you enjoy the video. See you tomorrow. Cho cho.

  2. WE are seeing too many crashed in GC tours nowadays. Something has to be done to reduce these kinda of crashes regardless of who is a fault. Bikers don't seem to want taking responsibility for reducing risk taking and keep doing whatever to compete. Better behavior to reduce risk taking will need to enforced. It is obvious that too much is allowed to happen and bikers will not self-correct unless greater discipline is imposed.

  3. HS!!! He took all the impact on his right shoulder & the right side of his head! 🤯 It's a bit of a miracle he wasn't hurt worse…
    Sux to lose the best road cycling sprinter in the world on the 3rd day of the Tour; it won't be the same race without him…
    Much respect to Jasper & hope he heals quickly & fully…

  4. Today, karma struck with a vengeance. Today, Philipsen reaped what he has sowed for years. Dirtiest rider in the bunch. He has hooked, barged, chopped and ridden other guys into the barriers forever. And he jokes about it afterward, with a complete lack of concern for guys he's hurt, and a gross arrogance. Not one tear to shed for the guy.

  7. Why have there been so many crashes in this years tour? Or, as im relatively new to watching the TdF, is this just a typical year and recent years have had fewer?

  8. Sucks to fall no matter who's fault it is and I don't actually see fault here — twas a racing accident. And I know a thing or two about broken collar bones as I've had that happen three times including both shoulders. All of them riding bikes and the first one was when I was about 10 years old. Also fractured a shoulder blade riding motocross so it's all bikes of one form or another.

  9. Once Coquard was moving on Milan, Rex was too slow to react, their bars came together and it was impossible for Coquard to control from then on (he did well to stay upright!) It was just racing! and it was unfortunately the perfect storm that gave Philipsen the worst possible outcome. It was inevitable (given the images and consequences for the green jersey/Philipsen) that the TDF org gave Coquard a yellow card, but it was not warranted.

  11. Do you think Lidt Trek are second guessing whether they should have taken Mads Pedersen to the tour, especially after his Giro performance?

  12. If Van Poppel is the only one getting carded this sprint it's absurd. The two on his left were already pushing, making contact.
    In no way am i saying he should not get carded, but there is about a dozen of riders who should or could get a yellow card here

  13. Jasper Philipsen is the most dangerous sprinter in the peloton to begin with. I’m surprised it took this long for him to suffer a serious injury, regardless of who is at fault for it.

  14. Coquard getting yellow here is an absolute disgrace. Instead of penalizing riders for no good reason what they should've done at UCI is tell ASO to FO with shitshow finishes like this. Just look at that final 500m… for shame UCI (and ASO), for shame.

  15. Saw it live and man, that looked awefull. Wouldn't wish that on anyone. That said, I also couldn't help but think "what goes around, comes around". It would be great if Jasper could get something out of this, in a sense that he reflects on how he acts when sprinting. This here was an honest accident, Bryan Coquard was heartbroken after what happened, but Jasper pulled so many stunts over the last years, where he willingly (!) accepted possible high speed crashes by his teammates which very well could have ended exactly like this one.

  16. Lidl-Trek and Santini need to find a better designer to help with their kit because Quinn Simmons' US National Champion jersey 3:54 looks like ass. Given the clown suits that Lidl-Trek wear, I guess that's not much of a surprise.
