I always had a love for vintage road bike looks and I somehow managed to find a really cheap Viner New Design SLX with Nuovo Record parts in my size (58CM frame, 186cm height), but I am having issues with comfort to some degree. I have gone on several short trips around town and one 40KM ride

  1. Changed from 115m stem to 90mm because reach seemed really long however I still don't find myself comfortable in the drops. I'm most comfy in the area right before the hoods and the tops, but the vintage campy brakes feel so far when I want to brake for emergencies. Especially when in traffic and having to look up I can feel my neck getting tired, this isn't a problem when farther out of the city since I am always looking down at an angle instead of straight up or on the tops/almost hoods. I also have it almost to the minimum insertion line since I would like to be slightly more upright with less saddle to bar drop.

  2. I don't know how it's possible but the pedals hurt like crazy. For all the short rides, I used some chucks or vans. They create hot spots immediately in the outer portion of my foot. I thought it may be my seatpost being too high or low but I changed to my speedplays and all the pain was gone (I used the speedplays for my 40KM ride and I did not feel any discomfort). I want to use vintage pedals for the aesthetic and because I'm not locked to clipless racing shoes. This has nothing to do with the clips or straps because I have loosened them up. Maybe next step is to remove them and see if they are somehow the culprit.

  3. Brakes squeal, I know I need to bend the calipers for toe-in, but another question I had was also about Koolstop brake pads. Do they make it easier to brake using less force? My hands get so tired, did a descent for 6 KM and my hands were tired braking on these older rim brakes.

My plan was to do a century on this bike with only vintage parts, but I don't feel confident I could do it without severe pain. Any help would be heavily appreciated, I don't want to modernize the bike since I already have a great road bike.
