We were told alot that the four rivers cycle route was boring or not worth doing (often actually by people who hadn’t done it) but after coming to Korea after Mongolia we were pretty keen to just cycle without navigation and stress for awhile.
We actually really enjoyed the route and didn’t find it boring at all. The path was busy on the weekend but mostly quiet during the week and we met alot for very friendly Korean cyclist who were always eager to give some encouragement, a thumbs up or stop for a chat. Being constantly along a river we found the scenery pretty good most of the time and enjoyed the areas through rural farm roads, and stopping off in small towns and villages. I can’t say we passed any sort of big tourist sights but to be honest I sort of prefer getting a feel for everyday life I’m a country instead of going to tourist attractions. Also the fact that ‘wild camping’ is very much accepted in the pagodas and rest areas along the trail made camping a breeze and we stayed under some sort of roof almost every night that we camped.
Overall I would defintiely recommend the path as long as you know what it is and are happy to take it for that. It would also be one of the most perfect beginner tours for someone looking to start out in a new country, good access to: drinking water and toilet, food and motels everywhere, well signed and easy to navigate.
