GP5k’s, decent wear- ~2K miles, am I right to replace asap? This is the only glaring spot, peeling up if pinched, casing showing. Never had this, tire has minor cracking, otherwise fine. Wear indicators BARELY there.
Someone might tell you to seal it with superglue or something but I’d just get a new tire.

It’s the daily “I have a small cut in my tire” post. If it’s keeping its shape, you’re ok. I’ve ridden thousands of miles like that. If it’s bulging, it might be time to boot, patch, or replace it.

I’d replace but you could try to glue it down and then reinforce with some gorilla tape under the tire.

Superglue would be fine, but are those tires pretty old? The texture on them seems like it’s leaning towards dry rot. That would make a good trainer wheel too if you are undecided

Ti frame and carbon wheels but rubber that looks like something from a mad max movie…
Just order some new tires already.

Yep, fully cooked. In the words of Teddy “over done and dry”.

Ask yourself whether you would be happy with a blowout on a 45 mph downhill, on a fast corner. Or whether you’d like to use your face as a brake. Then buy a new tyre

If you ride fast its not worth the crash, get a new tire

If it’s on a slower bike I wouldn’t care too much and see if a repair will hold. But I have those tires too – they’re meant to go fast. I don’t think I would trust it something like that on my road bike.

For once a tire on here that legit needs replacing. Just looking really worn down tear aside. The tear seals it, sure you could glue it and ride it. But it’s the end.

Why are you even asking this question? Replace.

If it weren’t for the dryrot I’d say superglue, and send it. But it’s time for a change. Just remember, every day you wait to get a tire is a day for the replacement to get more expensive.

The beauty of this tire is the stickiness of the outer rubber, but these are past their prime and the rubber has hardened a bit.

Do what you’re comfortable with; if it were me I’d just put a dab of super glue over it, maybe put a patch from the inside as well.

As a temporary/triage kinda thing I’d shoe goo it. But if I have the cash I’d replace the tire ASAP.

I have a tubeless version. I have a 5mm cut through the casing. Sealant couldn’t seal it. Tried patching it from the inside. Once inflated the cut stretched but patch was holding. Took it for a quick ride around the block and 20 minutes later the sealant started to seep through when exposing the tires during cornering. I said F it is toast. I just replaced them.

This looks like my back tire. Ima rub it the rest of the year. Maybe 1000 miles. I used clear gorilla glue. Kinda stuck it down for a bit . 🤷♂️
