Time triing. It’s a vital tool in any kit bag of a Grand Tour contender. Stage five was going to be pivotal. We knew that one of two time trials in this year’s race. This the flatter, but certainly the longer of the two. You had to have everything absolutely in place to be amongst the best. Just here in the paddock ahead of the TT, we got Tpanoop just warming up over there. Got an ice fest on the cooling system in place. Lots of activity as you’d expect outside the Visma Lisa Bike bus. Now this, you can just feel the atmosphere starting to build here as the GC riders start their protocol, start their warm-up. The course is an absolute cork kit. It’s very fast. I’ve ridden it myself, got overtaken by some of the best riders in the world. But I tell you what, today is really going to come to the head. It’s a power riders course. It’s going to be an absolute thriller. Almost one for the purist, I think you might say. 33 kilometers, three time checks along the way. A looping course with even temperatures and a good road surface for everybody. The wind not that variable either. So, time to release the gladiators. [Music] There are two time trials as we mentioned. One is a climbing time trial. This relatively flat but with fast sections and indeed a very technical finale. Afineni was out there hoping to nail every single one of the apexes. Maybe not bossing the intermediates and Afeni came home in green that time. Nearly 30 seconds to the good and showing what sort of pace you need out there. Over 53 kilometers an hour would be required to get yourself on a podium. Bruna Amaray French champion carrying the trickle to great applause and Afini’s time looked under threat. They were hoping it would get there. Ultimately just outside by 2.47 seconds knew how close that was. On the rollers, of course, those who would conquer Ramco Evapol starting off as absolute favorite. Vingo versus Pugatcha, though the head-to-head we were all looking forward to. Lipovitz, he carries German hopes to be a grand tour star and he rode like one today. The young German brilliant hoping for a top five and quite frankly at that point good enough for a virtual podium. But there are others on the prowl. Notably Primos Roglitch. This used to be bread and butter to him this game. Well, he still plays it very well, but he’s had so many bumps and bruises. Ill fortune as well, being caught out of position. Not a happy bunny, it seems, at the moment. Rogich solid time, I think it’s fair to say. And what about the time of this man? Time to go to the office for Remco Apollo. Absolute outand-out favorite. The golden helmet tells you all you need to know. And away he went. Golden bike, too. Would it be gold today? He looked absolutely magnificent. And for a man of small stature, he generates an incredible amount of power and that was on display. Not too much. You understand? Luke Plap had dominated the splits along the way and then blown up by putting too much in the early part of the run. No such mistake from Avanapole running a negative split. He was absolutely magnificent. The clock staying green for him. It was just going to be surely a question of the margin of victory. He was amazing. Almeida is an insurance policy out there for UEIE team Emirates. He needed a good run just in case anything would befall in terms of bad luck. Taliba during this race. It can happen to anybody. Not getting the finish he would have hoped for. Vocalan. Well, the new darling of the French fans looked absolutely brilliant. Super powerful, emptying himself out there. Good enough for fifth ultimately at the end of the day. And what a Yolas finger girl. Well, he set off before Tally Bacha. Vanderpole would close out the stage as the leader of the race coming into this time trial. Vingo looked determined. A lot had been spoken about in hush terms about how brilliant indeed his form is well slightly I’m afraid tarnished today. The clock was against him red for an awful long time and we were hearing the splits that Talibach was posting out there during Vingo’s run and it wasn’t good news I’m afraid for the day. Ultimately, this was to prove to be a very costly day for Yonas Vingo. And what of this man wearing the polka dots, king of the mountains? A good run. Well, that would garner him yellow. The points jersey as well. And the polka dots with no points up for grabs today. He was guaranteed that jersey, but he had the lead of this race in his mind. And he was amazing. He was out there. Not only was he beating Yonas Vingo, he was also maintaining the pace that had been put out there by Remco Aven. Look at this. Absolutely pushing the elbow nearly pushing into the barriers. Got away with it. But that indeed is a measure of the man swashbuckling he is. And this was amazing. taking control of the tour to France. Then of course the yellow jersey that would transfer by the end of the day inevitably from the absolutely fabulous Matu Vander Paul. He of course targeting the Mur de Britannia. This was always going to be a red clock next to his name. Asked at the beginning of the day if he could possibly hold on to yellow. Just one word, no. And he was right. It’s been wonderful watching Vanderpole and we’ll have many more days where he will be our hero. But right now, two riders are at the top of our thoughts. A Napole with the stage win, primary amongst them, you might say, and of course D Patcha who leads this race down. Evanol taking the day ahead of Patcha, Afini, Aarai, and Vocalam. Yeah, compared to all the other guys, uh I did what I had to do to try uh try to take as much time as possible and uh to step up in the GC. And I think um yeah, it’s kind of the same situation as last year uh at this time after the TT. So uh super happy with that and I think it’s a big step forward towards uh the podium, but of course it’s still a very long way to go in this tour. So uh just very happy with my performance of today and try to keep this up. Also others you had to spare a thought for. Bingo tumbles to fourth place in the general classification outside of the top 10 today. Tip catcher is our leader with Paul in second place. The margin between them in the GC 42 seconds. [Music] And so what about tomorrow? We go racing again. The out of the back door there’s some climbs which will beg a breakaway and then of course a lumpy finale. Drama guaranteed. Oh yeah. Every day it’s like that. How do we survive emotionally? How do they survive physically? It’s a big question. Vond, our destination.

The fish packer is done. What fun 🤣🤣
not jonas year.. hard to make this time up.
Jonas getting too much pressure from all angles this year, on and off the bike. Won't be easy to bust through all of that.
Excitement of TdF = 0. Suspense of TdF = 0. Thrilling TdF = 0.
The people claiming it was going to be the best TdF of all time… meanwhile it's over on day 5.
Tdf is over before it even began. Pog is too good. All year, every race.
where are all the Roglic hypers now?
As a newcomer to this sport, what makes Remco so good in time trial?
I hope nothing bad happens to Pog but can he have a mechanical or something and lose a few minutes otherwise it's just going to be a parade to Paris
Go Uno X
Will we ever see someone like Pogacar again?
Let’s face it it’s already over I can’t be bothered much now as unless something bad happens it won’t be a race for the lead sadly eh but he is mega to watch though a true great 👍
What an TT from the goat pogacar
Can someone at the UCI regulate these helmets please 🙏. It’s starting to remind me of the F1 cars with the “nose” extension.
So, welcome to the boredom
.. takes me back to 'The Indurain Era' the most boring & predictable Tours I ever did endure..
..The Armstrong Era wasn't much better.. other than each Year his domestiques were stronger in the mountains than all the other Teams Climbing Specialists..then it was laughable..
it's all been going that way again sadly…the performances simply luaghable😂😂😂
Brilliant highlights and succinct commentary 👌 keep up the great work & thank you 👏 👍
Almeida did better than Jonas 😂 the tour is over Pogi won
