Romania’s Most Aggressive Hard Enduro Race: Red Bull Romaniacs

[Music] it’s called the world’s toughest hard uro rally 5 days of bone numbing bike breaking race action it’s the 13th edition of the renowned Red Bull romaniacs and what better way to celebrate 13 years of off-road Madness and by taking a look back at how it all started the history of the romaniac starts with the former world and European snowboarding champ Martin fernus who needed to get his adrenaline fixed from another sport after years of exploring the Carpathian Mountains on his dirt bike fomit saw something special in the Romanian Countryside and set out to make the toughest race possible for his hard endural Brothers the first edition kicked off in 2004 and uh it was difficult to organize it we had uh to solve quite some troubles nobody was believing that aan guy who comes to Romania and wants to do something very special that nobody has seen before but Martin did just that and soon the race exploded in popularity yeah in the beginning it was pretty much myself and my wife and uh a few friends around that helped me to to organize it and now we have over 400 people helping to set it up it’s not only about finding the the nice Trails also the logistics around need to be uh need to work out and uh that takes a lot of things and blaming from the city of culture to the epicenter of hard andur racing cibu and the surrounding Romanian Countryside were a perfect match for phm’s crazy ideas I wanted to give the best Brothers a chance to show what they are capable to do and I wanted to give the not so good Riders a chance to sniff a bit of this this adventure this uh this uh great Country Landscape riding trails and being together with the top star with the pros as they say if you build it the top Riders will come the early years were dominated by motorcycle rally Legend serel Dupre who lifted the romaniacs trophy three times in the first four years victories by Germany’s Andreas leton bichler and New Zealand’s Chris Burch further solidified the high skill level but it wasn’t until the British sensation Graham Jarvis entered the scene that a master of the track could be claimed yeah I just love coming to remind it’s just a beautiful place and the first year was in 2008 managed to win it first time out racking up four wins Jarvis became the winningest rider in romaniacs history but soon another hard andural Warrior arrived ready to write his own history enter Johnny Walker the young Brit took an impressive victory in 2014 and followed it up next year with an epic down to the wire finish against Jarvis I never really thought that I was going to win this race cuz it’s one of Graham’s favorite races so to win that was you know massive confidence boost for me in 2004 there were only 28 Riders now there are well over 300 including Jarvis Walker and many more world class talents which satisfies me the most is that we have competitors from all over the world from over 35 Nations and uh this is quite interesting how many people we get to this quite unknown country Romania the right uro and everybody comes back with his man wow this has been a best ride in my life the top Riders competing on the world’s toughest course what will the 13th edition of romaniacs bring and who will ride their way to the history books [Music]

  1. This is why i love enduro, i do it with a bicycle so not a Enduro-mx like in the video but the goal and result is one and the same. Its the beauty of making nothing into something that makes me personally love it so much. how i came to love the sport was basically because im stubborn. i was riding with my friends in the forest there was trees/mud/rocks in the way of our path, my friends stopped and said we cant go that way.. i looked at them and just did it and they eventually followed. now we all ride enduro and we cant stop, now we go looking for that kind of obstacles instead of 2nd questioning whether its posible or not to overcome it! Thanks for the video! was awesome!
