The velcro ovals (in the red circle) were included in a bike repair kit I purchased that came with a multitool, tyre patches and levers, and an under-seat bag with room for a spare tube as well. They also put in these ovals and I can't figure out what they do?

I didn't have a banana so I included the three most common items I could find on my workbench for scale. (Bic lighter, Bic pen lid, and valve stem cap). The toes are just a bonus.

Thank you for any clues you may have in solving the great mystery of the little velcro ovals.

  1. They look like the velcro tabs you get with helmets to stick the padding back on. No idea why they would be in a Puncture repair kit.

Probably for reattaching your helmet lining if it starts to fall off

  3. I use these for cables that rub on my frame. Just wrap the bit that’s rubbing with those velco pads.

  4. Maybe to roughen up the surface around the puncture before putting the patch on? Many kits come with some piece of sandpaper.

Since you bought a kit that wasn’t just for patching your tube they’re almost certainly replacement velcro for your helmet liner. Does the other side peal off and is sticky?
