conditions met the riders this morning after some delays for the punchy hill stage. We had crosswinds yesterday. Today, the longest stage of the race, 210 km from Levant Plunk to Blon. They have muscles in this region. It’s near the Belgian border. I like muscles. I think they’re quite good. Three hills at the end of the race and Alperson having a yellow jersey and Vanderbil is the favorite were controlling. Vanu lectarel Federov went in the break. But who else was controlling the high viz of Tamar Wanty perhaps boyed by the uh white jersey in second place of Binium Germay who’s by the way still eligible for the young riders jersey evidently uh which goes to show he’s still so young got so much potential the green jersey winner last year but there were crashes uh Lechnos and Fedov crashing the break there were mechanicals actually a lot more crashes today although I haven’t seen any abandonments it was a tricky day and it was the same order of businesses yesterday. UAE, Vizma, Albison to the front trying to avoid the crashes and chaos behind them. But I want what do you see here? You see two things. See a windy check flag with the wind coming from the right left shoulder. But you also see Red Bull Bora Hansra with Van Pppel and Mayos. They were actually riding much more as a team today going for protecting rockage from road furniture like this that can pop up and uh so they clearly went for that in the intermediate sprint. We did have a bit of shenanigans. There was a blanket photo finish between the four big guns. Uh Cockard was going off at Penn. But then Milan goes he’s apopleleptic at Binnie and we’re like what did Binnie do? Apparently well I think I saw one shot from Twitter. It wasn’t on the live broadcast. Binnie bumped Milan or from stopped Milan going into the wheel of Binnie’s own lead out. Milan really was angry about that. He apologized later. All happy days things are forgiven. And the fight began. 30ks to go, 1k 9% climb. And that’s why you’ve got the vingard front 10 wheels. Nava’s pacing. Um we’ve got look where they are. Fifth wheel, sixth wheel, the whole team trying well you can’t actually keep your whole team around you. And this stage is all about position before these steep climbs. And here it is 1k 9 and a half% and vanard who was the third stage favorite starts to pace with Wellins in his wheel. And uh which was somewhat surprising that he spent his bickies there because then he goes back there’s splits though. I think there was a crash with Milan. Remco just makes the front split even though he had to go around the crash. It’s a small group. That’s 20 riders by my count but they got no incentive to pace. Roch is there right on the front as you can see supported by teammates. Uh Vizma got their complement of riders. UAE got Pagatcha plus three or so. So what is the incentive to pace? And so that group comes back. The Pelaton swells and becomes much bigger. Inos going for Axel Laurons and EF get this roundabout really correct. They go the quicker lefthand side but they and Vizma that was on their train get the next roundabout incorrect. So roundabouts knowing which way to go, which way is quickest is very important. And the next round about the right hand side was significantly quicker. So much quicker. In fact, the Renco and Katana got a gap and were chased back. But Groupama FDJ very good team in positioning. I mean they in classic Dunkirk or GP Dunkerk. Six days, four days of Dunkirk. Lewis Aski won the most technical sprint finish uphill of the year and he is this man launching it right now. A bit overly ambitious. He probably should have sat in the wheels but he’s I Oh no, he was leading out for Gregoire. I apologize to him. Benote takes it up. He’s got Vanderpool on his wheel. And there’s We’re waiting. Is there going to be a hammer blow from him? Is he going to punch away? Is Pagatcha going to try to drop Vingar, but it stops. But it comes off. Vanderpool takes a moment to recover. He doesn’t want to keep pacing. Remco makes it back. Gregoire’s right there. And Jorgensson attacks, but everyone’s attacking in slow motion. It’s 15%, but a small group, six riders, and again, no one really wants to ride. Pogy knows Narvis is coming back. We’re 8.7ks from the finish. You got two hills left including the finish hill and so Navaz could be very useful especially when he’s outnumbered by two Vizmurs and Kevin Vocal makes it back. So here is Navias. He makes it back to the group as Navias attacks over the top. Uh the Ecuadorian national champion Remco decides to also press on the pedals and keep the pace going in the descent. Vanipul’s happy to take his turn. I mean if it stops I think it would might have been Py chasing or no Lipovich was chasing for Rob. Vocaline goes again and Jorgensson goes, but he’s got Navi in the wheel, so he gives a free ride to Navi’s back. And then we got this next climb 800 m, 9% and Nvas goes into sort of defense mode. Pog Pagata seemed happy with the sprint finish. Didn’t try to attack to go with I don’t know, just Vingard or Remco to the finish, but Vocal has other ideas. Goes Oscar on closes it for Pagatcha. And then over the top, Vingard perhaps sees that Pagata is looking over his right shoulder. Roll has made it now. So he’s made it as well as I think Alexi Luchenko um from Israel Premate. But it cuts away. Binnie had a crash and Vingard attacks. Remco responds though. Remco chasing Vingard closing him down for Pagasha. Wasn’t going to go anywhere anyway cuz also our maid has made his way back into the group. But that dipper Vingard set up the counter perfectly with speed. Pagatcha doesn’t respond. Vulnerable can’t respond. He’s got a gamble. He’s got no teammates in this group. Lhenko bridges across Vocal. Jorgensson Luchenko is the perfect trio to go away like the two Yates brothers in stage one. But Jorgensson won’t pull. He won’t pull. He said afterwards he thought Vanard was in the group behind and Vocal in sense kind of rightly so after the race and this group is caught. I think with Almea riding full with Navi coming back and riding full. He’s in this group as well. I don’t think it would have made it. when you see Lipovit’s attack and how quickly Narvay and Armea shut this down and then the three the three would have played games on the final climb I don’t think it’s making it but still you never know and then Julian Alfalip says I’ve recovered from yesterday I want to make absolutely sure I can’t win the stage so I lead start to lead them out at 600 meters to go I look around I chop Vingard just it’s perfect I mean this is what you want from the tour to France this is what tuda want you want Alfaleipe twitchy nervous causing chaos, sprinting. I can’t wait to see him in maybe stage four or the murder of Bratana which suits him really really well. But Vanderpool, he had the the whole final climb shut down for him only he only had to lead out himself and that he said I can do perfectly in Lan this year which I’m sure you all watch the 1.1 he let himself out and dusted some classic sprinters up hill. So making short work of some GC boys ain’t a thing for him. winning the stage taking the yellow jersey off his teammate head patching Gregoire Alfalib on parapantra vocal good representation from France today actually Velasco and Burmos here’s what MVP had to say after the race
you were the favorites of the stage everyone was talking about but still what a battle and what a struggle to get that victory
yeah it was super difficult the final was actually harder than I thought um yeah I was really motivated finally after uh it’s been four years I think since I’ve won my first stage on the tour to France. So it was about time I uh I won a second one. In terms of GC as I said Vanderpool goes into the yellow jersey, Pagata takes six bonus seconds, Vingard four. So, Pagatcha has is the best place GC rider with Vingard on two seconds. Jurgensson Mars and Vocal on 10 seconds. And then the gaps from yesterday’s crosswind stage putting Ramco on 49 seconds to Tado Pagatcha after two stages. That’s probably going to be too much to take yellow after the TT on stage five. And we got another punchy stage to come. Enjoy the video. See you the recap tomorrow. Chowo cho.

  1. That's probably they're strategy, attacking all 10 sprint stages so by the time it's climb category vingegard have a chance

  2. I am sorry Jörgensen, but WvA isnt beating MvdP or Pogi in a finish like this.

But even so, its better they have to use energy to close the gap to you to give WvA a better chane.

  3. Now: Since today marks the start of a new week I won't be able to watch as much of the tour the next days. But I will absolutely make sure to watch as much as I can, because stages 1 & 2 had me hooked. Yesterday was intresting, because when the four in front immidiatly ran away I was just watching the time to the Peloton and actually realized that the Peloton actually had everything in control. It's intresting once you know just a little bit about strategy in a race like this. Ngl though: I thought Remco Evenepol would take the stage win. Seriously forgot about Mathieu 😅

  4. Trying to drop Pogacar on a classics course is not going to work, he is the best classics rider out there 😅 the only shot in the first 10 stages is in the echelons, but he is also good at that. Haha must be so hard to ride against.

  5. The question is whether the GC guys are starting their battle too early. In the past years, it was a unwritten rule not to loose time in the first stages, and then hit with the hammer once the mountain stages arrive. Now the GC guys start the battle at day 2, there will be a price to pay for all of them. But as everyone join the chaos, everyone will suffer eventually.

  6. Only bad things about these otherwise excellent videos are the always overselling and sensationalistic headlines. Often keeps me from clicking the videos. Good job other than that!
