Hello all,

Yesterday I changed cassettes on my rear wheel (DT Swiss 350 hub) from a Shimano HG 11 speed to a HG 12 speed cassette.

Upon tightening the lockring, it wouldn't fully tighten and just kept rotating. I stopped, removed lockring, and this thin metal spiral fell out of the hub (see photo). So I guess this means I cross threaded it, and shaved off this spiral from the cassette body thread?

On the second try, it did fully tighten as normal.

So am I good now to proceed as normal? Or did I damage the hub?

    It looks slightly cross-threaded but if it holds, the damage wasn’t significant enough to make a meaningful difference. Ride it for a bit and recheck that the ring remains tight. If so, luck is on your side.
