  1. Start by taking care of the bike… tha5 chain and chain rings are sooo rusty!

  2. Looks like they gave you braze-ons for a regular rack. Axiom makes some good ones

If you install a rear rack, you can put some kind of cardboard on it, it should be enough to guard most of the water. Also the panniers and tents etc on the rack will cover your back. You could get less knobby tires, ‘slicks’, if you plan to stick to roads…

Blackburn outpost rear rack. Decent load capacity as well. Mud guards are absolutely an option. I love my full fender. Depending on your riding conditions can really make a big difference in how muddy you get. I’ve ridden through miles of puddles on gravel/mud. Minimal to little grit on myself as well as bike/panniers. Try them if ya don’t like it. Take em off and maybe trade for something else. Like chain cleaner or new grips….

  5. Once I got a rack, I cut a plastic gallon milk jug into about a 4″ wide by about 20″ long strip and zip ties it to the underside of the rack and struts, then tuck down to where the struts attach to the frame. Actually have 2 racks both with this. Front I use a mucky nutz which attaches to the suspension fork.
