[Applause] good morning Bimblers and you join me in Amesale it’s been lovely this week hasn’t it so I thought I’d come to the seaside at least for a few stops we’re going to go and have a look at Little Crosby that’s not really near to the sea so I suppose we’ll go to Big Crosby as well anyway let’s stop messing about and let’s bimble [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] only new this time things to show me but life just keeps turning back to the way things were before [Music] i just need a good look at the sea today bimblers what with the nice weather plus yesterday when I was busy Mrs bimble and my little baby Molly they went to Lando without me i’ll never forgive them we’ve been to Aedale Beach before that was in my National Cycle Route 62 series episode 3 i’ll have to start getting back on with that won’t I i’ve been putting it off because the next section is a place we’ve been hundreds of times here on Bimbleism just waiting for you lot to forget about it i told you all about the lizards in that video but one thing I didn’t tell you about was Sir Henry Seagrave or to give him his full name Sir Henry O’Neal Deain Seagrave he set his first landspeed record here at Anesale Beach on the 16th of March 1926 he went 152.33 mph that was in his car Ladybird which was a 4 L Sunbeam Tiger henry was the first person to hold the land speed and the water speed records at the same time plus he was the first person in history to go over 200 mph he died in 1930 just after setting the new water speed record on Lake Windermir he went 98.76 mph and his boat Miss England too but on his third run the boat flipped over and it killed his chief engineer henry regained consciousness just long enough to where that he broke the record and that his chief engineer Victor Hwell had passed away moments later Henry himself passed away from a lung hemorrhage i think I’ll take it leisurely to form beer let’s bimble only this time things to show me but life just keeps turning back to the way things were before all you this time you would still see all that became attached from the way things were before it just proves to me how it’s meant to feel we have motive we have the time we were meant to lead extraordinary lives it changed with time you still know me we just keep facing by to the way things were before it should plainly show what we’re meant to know we have motive we have the time we were mentally extraord lines days keep moving but time just keeps falling back to the way things were before it just proves to me how it’s meant to feel we haven’t moved till we have the time we were meant to leave extra horny lives it just proves to me how it’s meant to feel we haven’t we have the time we were meant to live extraordinary lives [Music] and so Bimlers we reached Formbby Beach we’ve been here before we came here in my peaky blind as Bimble more of them coming soon the name Formbby comes from the Vikings they invaded Lancaster down the river Alt which is in between Formbby and Crosby Beach or Blundell Sands more on that in a bit the form in Formbbe is supposed to come from someone’s name for with an N and the Bit well that comes from the Norse word for town or settlement or village so you got thornbecoming for B with an M but the history goes back a lot further here in Forbear occasionally the sea washes away the sand and uncovers ancient footprints from the Mesalithic and Neolithic eras footprints of wild balls and deers and wolves and humans all uncovered by the sea as the tide goes out when the tide comes back in again they all disappear washed away after thousands of years and speaking about things buried in the sand form beholds the distinction of having the UK’s first lifeboat station it’s not here anymore it’s been knocked down but you can still see the foundation sometimes that was built in 1776 by a William Hutchinson he was the dockmaster in Liverpool he was a right nautical clever clocks he developed the parabolic reflectors in your modernday lighouses and he put his prototype in Liso lighthouse on the whirl we’ve been mult that in the past long time ago now but occasionally when the wind blows in the right direction it uncovers the foundations of that lifeboat station the first one in the world maybe 1776 let’s get some chips [Music] [Music] big plans are easiest to make aim for the stars it’s yours just wait you do your best along the way but it’s those arms that told me I don’t care if it’s yours or mine without you it’s just a waste of time you show me from the start such inspirations need a heart to bring you [Music] around big aspirations need a heart to hold you hard to hold you down louis so then we change the extra similar to the That was all to even the score with my little Molly i had sausage and chips without you just like you went land without me take that [Music] [Applause] you talk all your thoughts on your mind are you listening you still won’t figure it out figure it with all your thoughts on your mind all the time oh it’s definitely you still won’t figure it out figure it with a simple frame of mind and a little time you can protest all you like we both know with good will on your side you can have just what you like both easy try better off this time have you grown away life easy just try i know you heard every word every line but you’re missing it why won’t you figure it out figure it though I talk pretty loud in the [Music] heaven you still won’t figure it out figure it with a simple frame of mind and a little time you can protest all you like we both know with good will on your side a little time you can have just what you like so try better way easy just try [Applause] [Music] with a simple frame of mind well Bimlers we’ve reached Crosby Beach or Blundell Sands but we need to go to Little Crosby first we can’t end the video here we’ve got to find out why Blundell Sands is called Blundell Sands we could stop and have an ice green couldn’t we no no let’s get on with it let’s bimbo with good will on your side a little time you can have just what you like oh no easy try better [Music] time easy just try [Music] easy way easy let’s try [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] And so we reached the curiously little village of Little Crosby i knew there was something strange about it not enough street lamps around here it’s said to be the oldest Roman Catholic village in England and it was home to the Blundell family hence Blundell Sands it’s named after them they were famous for being Catholic recusants a Catholic recusant is someone who remained Catholic even though Henry VI said they should be Church of England then Oliver Cromwell said they should be Protestant a Richard Blondell died in Lancaster jail in 1590 that was for his devout Catholic beliefs also imprisoned was his son and his daughter-in-law they were in prison for several years just for being Catholic it wasn’t actually legal to be Catholic in England until 1778 that was with something called the Papist Act and even then the Stewart family had to swear an oath that they would relinquish their claim to the throne it was Sir Robert Peele and the Duke of Wellington that finally lifted the remaining laws that stop people believing in Catholicism that was in 1829 with the Catholic Emancipation Act back in the 17th century Little Crosby was described thusly it had not a beggar or a nail ale house and there wasn’t a Protestant in it these days you are allowed to be Protestant and live here in Little Crosby but you still have to go and see the local squire to make sure it’s okay wonder what he thinks about atheists that’s Bimble [Music] maybe it didn’t work at the time maybe it never [Music] did a mistake that made the distance or a trying way to [Music] live maybe it’s the time that you grabbed at my arms and electricity flowed from my shoulders to palms in a white hot glow leaving white cold scars left bear and on shoulders to prove they were ours maybe it worked maybe it never did maybe it never was quite like how it is and so Bimlers we reach journeys end my last chance to look at the sea before I go home this is Crosby Beach or Blundell Sands named after the family from Little Crosby horse racing has always been popular here in Liverpool in fact over the weekend they had the Grand National didn’t they at Entry Racecourse and horse racing used to take place here on Blundell Sands or Crosby Beach and it was organized by Nicholas Blundell don’t know how that went along with being a Catholic recent you know horse racing and gambling and stuff maybe they didn’t gamble back then i’m not sure the only problem with having a horse race on a beach is you can’t charge people to get in cuz they can just walk down the beach and get in for free see all the action it’s not like over at Entry where you got to buy your ticket and put on your fancy duds a raceourse was proposed in 1829 by a fellow called William Lynn he owned the Waterloo hotel in Liverpool and he approached the second Earl of Septton William Phillip Molyneu to use his land to have the horse race there the ear had the nickname of Dash along that was because of his horse riding style he liked to flutter on the GG’s and he liked to drink or two so it was obvious he should have the horse race on his land he just said I just tidy up afterwards like of course the ear would entertain his posh friends and they would all get dressed up and in the fineries with the fascinators on and stuff and drink champagne and smoke cigars in 1836 William Lynn organized something called the Liverpool Grand Steeple Race which historians believe was kind of like the first Grand National they didn’t adopt the name Grand National until 1839 the Grand National happens here in Liverpool every year and it’s the UK’s largest horse racing event if not the world’s largest horse racing event it’s the only horse racing event that I’ve ever put a bet on i always pick the horse with the daftest name or at least I did last time I bet on it they always lose so I’ve give up the most famous Grand National winner is of course Red Rum that’s murder spelled backwards he was bought for £420 or 400 guineies they like to work in guineies in horse racing after he’d done all of his training he was worth 6,000 guineies but 2 days after he was bought by his new owner Ginger McCain he found that his foot was lame he had something called pedalostitis poorly foot limping ginger McCain had seen this treated in cart horses and what they did was they just troted them through the sea and that would make the foot better sort of like physiootherapy so that’s what Ginger McCain did down at Southport tory he troted red drum through the surf making his leg better it certainly worked he won the Grand National three times according to my big book of Bimble that was in 1973 1974 and 1977 he came second twice in 1975 and 1976 and he was actually buried underneath the finishing post at Entry Racecourse well that’s the end of my seaside adventure bimbellers I’ll get one last look at the sea then it’s time for me to trot off home [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music]

Wonderful again Kieran 😊
Great Bimble Kieran 🚴
Enjoyable watch 😊
Now, would that be a Catholic atheist, or a Protestant atheist? Another great video 😊.
Hi Kieran, I do hope that Molly found it in her heart to forgive you after you polished off that portion of sausage and chips.
Bimblism live at Widnes cricket club was a rip roaring success in my book 😊
I even managed to get the last bus back to Warrington.
I came across your channel about Christmas time last year and was hooked. I've gradually been catching up on all your episodes and escapades, better than 'ewt on the telly. I was lucky enough to get tickets to Bimblism live at Leigh, a great show. Love your music, only trouble is that now, when I go out on my bike, your songs are constantly playing in my head 😂
Looks a nice place to cycle plenty of paths
Another lovely relaxing informative video
Avid watchers in Lowton, we love watching your videos after our tea ,the out-tro music is a sort of full stop to our working day
Oh yeah, bought a t-shirt as well
Nice one
Thanks Kieran
A beautiful part of the world, a five minute pedal from where I live, so lucky to have the lovely beach at Crosby on my doorstep.
My neck of the woods!! Lovely video on a lovely sunny day! Thank you 😊
Great video ! Really nicely made. On your comment at 09:21. A couple of days ago (15-Apr-2025), at a race meeting at Newmarket, one of the races was called 'the Earl of Sefton Stakes'. It is still up on YouTube and a horse called 'Persica' won it.
Another fantastic Bimble x
That chippy is lovely after a good walk. Things I've found on Formby beach, a bomb, a dead elephant🤷🏻♂️

Kieran, you cycled right past my front door in Formby! I'd have had a brew ready for you if I'd known. Great video as always
Who's is this music, please?
Whose music did you use.
Ah, so Ince Blundell, the Weld Blundell also named after the Blundell family……
