  1. i bike so rarely i’m ashamed to even post here, but 3 summers ago i spent $40 on some top rated noname pump. after about a dozen tire inflations, i want to go for a ride today, only to find whatever junk the valve head sleave is made of will no longer hold seal, even the shrader side is useless with an $2 adapter on my 90psi 20″ presta valve tubes.

i don’t want to waste $40 every 3 years like this – i literally have a box of old failed pumps by now of all types, hand, standing, travel, they all fail the same way… the female grip won’t hold a seal anymore on the valve stem after very light use over time.

please help me end this madness with a better or more serviceable long term solution. i don’t live anywhere near a bike shop with air, and i don’t have a car.

Topeak Joe Blow is the GOAT. They are like 65 bucks. They are rebuildable. I absolutely abused mine for 10 years. It had a few new gaskets, a new o ring on the main cylinder, a couple check valves in that time. Finally wore the cylinder out and bought a new one.

I’ve used the pocket rocket by Topeak for 11 years. Still going strong. I’ve just got the new pocket rocket and mount for £20.

All spares are available if needed.

The screw on types will last better. I have a lezyne floor drive which has been going for years with no sign of wearing out, and I cycle a lot and have a family’s worth of bikes to keep inflated.

My floor pump had the valve head fail after 15 years> i just replaced it with a generic head from Amazon. This is the video I used to do it at home. [https://youtu.be/g0AOEIfU7cA](https://youtu.be/g0AOEIfU7cA)

I’ve had great luck with Blackburn brand pumps. I had one break once after years and years of use and I contacted Blackburn with no proof of purchase or anything, and they sent me a brand new one a few days later. Highly recommend!

For your original $40, Decathlon have a great little pump (Article no. 8582549). I’m 3 summers in (checking my pressures a few times a month) and it’s mint.

  8. Just changed to Schwalbe Clik Valves, not gonna look back. Best decision ever.

Like others have mentioned, the Joe Blow is great. However, if money is no object and you want to leave your pump to your grandchildren in your will, get a Lezyne Floor Drive Alloy. They sell a rebuild kit for it, and it’s metal with nice wood handles. I know someone who works as a bike mechanic that has had one of these for like 15 years, it’s by far the nicest pump I’ve used. At $100, it’s a buy once cry once situation.

  10. The specialized one is pretty stout , expensive though but completely rebuildable and I think it comes with a warranty , I have had one for ten years

  11. Lezynw Steel Floor Pump! Rebuildable and built with precision parts. Been using it for 7 years and looks good as new. Also, looks phenomenal.

I have a Serfas pump which I have been using for 15 years or more. Once the pump head went bad, they sent out a replacement for cost of postage.
