The Marlin 4 Gen 2 was perfectly fine for me when I bought the bike, but I very quickly came to realize that It wasn't enough for the semi-casual riding I do. I can tolerate the fork but the brakes felt horrid no matter what I did and the tourney drivetrain would drop anytime I took a drop over half a foot in height.
There was always a bit of wobble in the rear wheel, and I'm guessing with time it got bad enough to snap the inside of the hub. That, in addition to my brother snapping my chain and the derailleur being quite bent lead me to change out the brakes, drivetrain, cranks, pedals, and rear wheel.
It probably ran me around 400$ for the parts alone (m4100 / dc22 bontrager connection / mt200s / 32t chainring / 170mm square taper cranks), and god knows how much for the tools since I wanted to do everything myself. I also got myself a few spare parts so I can limp my bike home in case something terrible happens when I'm on the road.
Probably not the most economical option, but on the bright side I know how to maintain all parts of my bike now.
P.S.
Don't get a marlin 4 unless you know for sure you will be sticking to the roads for the foreseeable future.
