I’m not too crazy. Just going to be riding in a river valley behind my place. There’s some dirt paths with tree roots. A paved path, some gravel paths and a steep dirt hill that I was never able to make it up completely as a teenager without jumping off and walking up the rest of the way. Just trying to get back into shape and love being able to hop some curbs and carve through the dirt.

I had a giant seek 2 and it was brutal for anything off-road.

Without looking into the specs on the components I’d say go rockhopper or marlin

  2. They are all going to be very similar but I’m going Giant for the 1x drivetrain.

  3. If you can jump up a couple of hundred dollars you can probally get something with a modern wide range 1x drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes an air fork and nicer frame like a roscoe or fuse. That gets you all the latest tech and standards and will both perform better on the trail and be easier to keep in tune and adjusted especially if you end up hopping a lot of curbs and things on it.

  4. Definitely try and get a 1x drivetrain and an air fork.

    Future you will be thankful

  5. please don’t get the marlin 4, I literally just spent a good 500$ upgrading mine to 1x drivetrain and hydraulic brakes. the wheels are not compatible with any decent cassette.
