I didn’t get a chance to ask the owner about it as I didn’t check the bike in, but it looks like they wanted more gadget space than they had available. They pieced together this wild pvc mount with super sharp worm clamps right where your hands go when using the drop bars. After I changed the tubes I took it for a test ride and I could not use the brakes safely without potentially cutting my hands. Our shop has a policy that we won’t work on anything dangerous(cracked rims, missing spokes, brakes don’t work being the most common) to the user unless they’re willing to let us fix it. When they come back for it do I tell them they need to fix this or do I let it go since it’s not technically a failure point? What other crazy stuff like this have you guys seen?

  1. Reminds me of my former flat mate who put a gravel bar on his trekking bike and then realized how expensive STIs are. So he just bought drop bar brake levers and ziptied a wooden round bar onto his gravel bar, and installed his old shifters onto that

  2. The whole bike is a death trap. I know it’s probably safe, but I could never be comfortable using a 3-piece drop bar.

While absurd, it’s not unsafe, just uncomfortable. Don’t judge and give good customer service.

My favourite: Fork installed the wrong way. Headset screw missing completely. Cranks are about to fall off. Brakes are not even remotely working (partially because of the fork is backwards lol)

No clue how that guy survived this far
