Browsing for front racks I feel like the term budget basket is an oxymoron. Once I got lucky and grabbed a tiny-ish steel supermarket basket from a thrift store for 5 €. Now I need a basket for this ride, it has a front rack already, not super huge, just for a bag, purse, bottle. I don’t really want to spent 80+ euros on the latest BLB basket iteration

  1. ckeck Kleinanzeigen for bike baskets, also for home decor baskets. Also Muji has a good wire basket for like €20

  2. At some point h&m had “socks” baskets for organizing that where kind of hidden on the website but where the “standard” bike basket size.

Probably won’t last forever but I got two for 20€ or something like that

I think you can luck on clothes “organizers” or whatever in interior design type of shops

  4. I live in the vicinity of a farmers market (AUT). They get their produce in these plastic crates. They throw them out in the public trash cans (a tradegy really how much waste they produce).

But now I have a big set of different sizes, I collected out of the trash cans. No regrets.

  5. I don’t use one, but so far I heard Basil is the go to standard for cheaper ones.

  6. Korbmärkte. No, seriously, there is a basket stand at Nuremberg’s Easter and Autumn markets, and there’s an annual Korbmarkt up the road in Lichtensfels where I can get wicker baskets in all shapes and sizes relatively cheap.

I have a wooden wine crate. Got it from a …..wine shop. Different sizes are available.

Usually I get creative and rework a “Getränkekiste” (Beverage Crate) or look for other things I can misuse as a basket.

Might be a bit tougher in this case as you need to find something that don’t ruin the look of your bike. You might have a look for something like a hamster cage that you can cut to size, rework and repaint.

Basil Tigre Kinder-Fahrradkorb is small and should be available in most bike stores and cost about €10.

  10. Versuchs bei der lokalen ADFC-Werkstatt/falls Unistadt Asta-Fahrradwerkstatt/… da spült sich sowas eigentlich immer an

I have a Basil Cairo in the front. €14,00 online. I got it mounted on a small rack like yours, but the welds didnt hold. Im now making a diy surly tv tray to spread the load.
