After my Treckology UL50 inflatable sleep mat finally died I thought i’d experiment with a really cheap sleep mat. First outing is a hop, skip and a jump to the beautiful Ringstead Bay on England’s south coast.

[Music] I was just looking for new ones online new air mattresses and um I just saw one of these like really cheapy Pham ones well you’ll see it in a minute and it was £7 7 quid so I thought you know what I’ll buy that give it a try it’s worth a PT so uh that’s what I’m going to be sleeping on tonight up night looks lovely Blue Sky anyway so the reason why I bought that was cuz it’s like 70 G and the tracky Sleep M and the um Flex tail pump up thing that came in at it was over half a kilo and I thought you know what I’m kind of roughly saving myself half a kilo which is about a bit [Music] [Music] [Music] he [Music] n [Music] [Music] I [Music] just see glimpses of the ridge now looks like I’m going to be going over that in a minute oh yeah that’s the way to end the day H probably would have popped in for a PT actually I’m already a massive side of fan not since I was 14 how beautiful is that still got a bit more to go let’s see in the distance just in case you can see it take your mouth yes oh and I think earlier I might have said kimid Bay it just suddenly occurred to me I might have said kimid B but I actually meant ringstead Bay so I’ll be there in a minute I forgot this was here um this is St Catherine’s Chapel um it’s like it’s I don’t know old church but looks wooden it’s lovely isn’t it little graveyard final resting place e that’ be what a lovely place to to finally rest yeah and there’s Portland again looking Majestic over there beautiful wow you can be anywhere can you this looks like they linking I know Sant pay or something beautiful still I’m still quite high up um yeah I can go where’s the shoreline I it looks quite Stony I don’t want to blinking Care on St there doesn’t look too bad actually might just have a little look I’ll have a little look remember when I did kimid Bay and that was Stony full of bloody dodgy things yeah made it down that was uh that was interesting coming down that there so you got the pill box thing that is mad I think in the morning I can get back a bit more up that way so it’s all Stones looks like it’s some Sandy bits so I’m just going to walk along there’s some fishermen over there doing their thing I’ll leave them to it there’s some over there I think they’re just waiting out thing so there’s some sand there I might go this way just go around that little bit there I don’t know is it the best idea to stay down here with the uh the new roll thing you haven’t seen it yet but it’s really thin I suppose it’ll be around on the sand yeah it’ll be it’ll be the ultimate test for it won it so yeah um I might Chuck It On the Rocks there’s uh oh there’s somebody with some filming equipment it looks like doing yeah there yeah this seems quite a quite a busy Beach as in I might not be alone there’s Portland again lovely [Music] here you go check this out so it’s already set up oh I’ve got my shoes in there I forgot about it i’ got some like beach shoes anyway the old mountain and Warehouse traveler 50 and then what I’ve done is i d this is going to be all but yeah I’ve already put the thing inside it’s a setup time is literally taada that’s your setup time how cool is that right I’ll show you this then oh grab you yeah that’s all it is I’ve got my bush Pro Bush Pro um bivy with slug marks all over it it’s from the last camp and all it is is yes this thing see how thin that is it’s not thick but it’s more for insallation cuz old um uh I can’t remember his name I think it’s Josh uh you know the uh keep smiling Adventures guy he apparently sleeps without an air mattress and just as um his bivy or his tent and and just has his uh sleeping bag and just does that so I’m thinking this is going to be like halfway through halfway it saves about 500 or um half a kilo in weight with the um the tracky and the inflator uh so that’s basically a beer isn’t it so you know got to uh got to prioritize the beer yeah but no also if I can sleep like this I’m I’m I can sleep through most things and yeah so it’s all good it’s all good uh we’ll see how it works out oh yes the vindaloo has finally come out whack in the pan away we go how cool is this cooking a curry on the beach that’s nice i’ got to say this this Curry bit chicken there it’s right it’s definitely not you know velu hop tast kind of like madrassi you know got that sort of thing yeah nice gra this again oh I’ve actually got a bread roll in the Pano I want to get that as well or I save it I’m not as hungry as what I thought I was going to be there I did have a roll on the way so I’ve done um 26 27 miles whatever it is um massive F at the end there um just past over Mo coming down but now nothing nothing too strenuous so I think uh this is the S sort of thing I need to be doing over the next month you know just to keep the legs in for my big tour I keep on mentioning it I I haven’t mentioned where it is yet have I there is luga if I pronounced that correctly if you know what that means then you know where I’m going or the second most spoken languages in the world I think anyway that’s enough for now cheers all I just did a whole kind of little um cheers all and everything and realized I hadn’t pressed blinking record so anyway what I was saying was in that um yeah I don’t think I’m going to put my top up it’s % chance of rain this is like yeah oh yeah I was also moaning about the reason why I’m on hobgoblin at the moment I do like a brew dog and stuff you know loads of other stuff but they’re just quite expensive and also they don’t seem to do them um I don’t want anything too strong you know what I mean don’t want to get too wasted on a on a on a on a bik packing Mission um but yeah yeah it’s all good anyway um I’m just enjoying the time with the seagulls at the moment obviously there’s num round they were just there was some just clambering around I’ve washed my pan and stuff out in the sea which is quite nice um yeah it’s way cool way cool uh yeah I’m not going to put my top I’ve got the stones and stuff they’re ready to kind of oh yeah I’m sat on one of them I’m sat on one of the stones and those will kind of hold up if I did want to put it up but I don’t think I will I think it’s I think there’s no chance of rain I don’t need to put it up other than privacy really there’s a couple of people over there with a dog I think they’re just heading home there the fish fisher fisher people I think I’m assuming fish fishermen over there they’re going to be here till the morning I assume don’t what time they’re going to be going probably the same time as me I would have thought but yeah so I’m going to be heading that way in the morning down that way yeah I’m looking forward to going to sleep with this with that lapping of the Waves looking forward to that yeah it’s going night it’s going hazy now you can see the sun’s gone down over the over there somewhere so if if you’re further in land you probably get a bit more of a sun you know bit more sun but yeah anyway I’m blabbering on there right looking forward to this um I’ll I’ll um bring you back if there’s anything cool that happens in the in the night um any strange creature things oh that’s what I was saying about yeah um there was some on my kimid bay video check that out I’ll stick a link above there was some mad Kim Bay it’s all Flint I think it’s Flint anyway so rather than Stone and sand like this it’s like flinty stuff and there’s these which is all right to camp on but you’ve got the cliff which is falling stuff down all night long so you’re a bit concerned about that and the bugs that wasn’t nice but I’ve been scouring around and it doesn’t seem to be anything that resembles what was there there were these like Marine earwigs I think they were called um if you ever encoun one of them they’re just they’re just super fast they jump on everything yeah not nice but I haven’t seen any yet fingers crossed I don’t see any of them anyway catch in the B you just see me yeah so that light just behind me that’s the fisherman so they’re quite happy not to get um not to get caught on this beach so that must mean me as well and that’s Portland again and that must be wouth over there on the right Sun’s going down now it’s it’s gone 10:00 I mean look at that this is lovely this is the UK oh you can’t see me now H give myself a bit of light this is just spectacular I’ve got a smile on my face hello this is absolutely spectacular we got the sound of the waves got a couple of beers of halfway through my second beer this is just brilliant got the twinkly light support yeah this is spectacular long may this continue obviously I’ve got that massive climb in the morning to get back up which I came down earlier I’m covering up in the roadway though so I might just you know might be a little bit smoother we’ll see anyway it’s weird I’ve lived around here for years but I’ve never actually been down to um what was that that was summer big I’ve never actually been down to um ringstead Bay don’t think so I think I might have actually dived around here when I used to scuba dive years ago um yeah maybe anyway anyway I’m yeah I’m I’m there anyway I’ll bring you back if anything cool happens um if I’ve just had a little lay down on the thing it feels all right so yeah we’ll see if I sleep all right oh my back we’ll see in the morning right when it’s not Amigos all right hello yeah so it’s 12 o’ now this is just lovely I keep kind of going to sleep and then waking up again I can hear the waves bashing against the thing it seems to be high tide now so it’s really really you know the noise is really close which is nice that’s lovely this is just i’ would recommend this to everyone all right see you in the morning guys wow more than [Music] not what way to start the day how cool is that it’s um quarter 5 Sun sounds be coming off over there somewhere oh this is lovely what way to start the day CA three in the one still got the same looks done then you got the mattress thing still in there which is nice what I think I’m going to do shake out it’s got a bit of De on it fold it in half R roll ta there he is that SLS in I did try this at home and uh it seemed to work kind of get them both in at the same time they squeezed back down together took a bit of uh took a bit of figh in there all right I’ll put my shoes back in my pan just in case you were wondering cuz I got them out of this well it’s now4 6 I’ve waited around as long as I can Sun still hasn’t come around the Headland yet but you can see it looks pretty cool about there well thank you very much excellent counter spot you can just see like dry spot there it’s all wet around it yeah that’s pretty cool wow that’s up there in the top five I reckon yeah that en camping on the community of Santiago in Spain that was lovely just another Woodland but it was like I know spiritual I know magical it’s C 5 six I mean Zed land still yes so I’m going to walk my bike along this bike along here so just like there is where I came in but I’m going to carry on that’s where everyone seemed to be going so the fishermen they it was about qu 1 I heard the just just just you could and they all clambered by along that bit there I think with the torches on about4 1 and they Carri on going all the way to that um like the groin thing there and then went up to the right so I’m going to try that way because going cuz going that other way that’s going to be a freaking nightmare but I don’t know what this one’s going to be like so anyway anyway I shall update you as I go [Music] so that was um that was fun I didn’t get that I didn’t get any of that on the video cuz that was just the head was in the gate away you can see my trail it’s my bik trail I’ve just had to clamber on my bike up these rocks I shouldn’t I should have just gone the other way actually thinking about it but I didn’t know that it was this bad down here and now I’ve got to push it out that that actually seems relatively easy compared to that a few people out king about having a we of a time look at that and oy days and the sun coming up over the Headland there how beautiful as that taking off my winter tights starting to get warm walking along that beach yeah I think for future where that pill box is remember pill box that’s where the thing is I didn’t get any of that on film either just climbed it out there that was uh that was not nice actually not too slippy those steps see look like they seen better days right guys I’m going to call it a day there on the video I got about 25 miles still home I’ve just come up all that you know the the hills of pain and stuff and that uh St Katherine’s church I just went went past that as well so I’m just basically going back the way I came um what an awesome night that was yeah I forgot to mention on the beach I completely forgot so I suppose because I forgot means it must have been good I slept like a baby um except for when I woke up go for a was the fisherman woke me up walking past but other than that I was I was sound as a pound that was lovely um the uh the sand underneath you know it’s like being on the beach and it you just kind of ruffle around a bit and get it nice and comfy no that was lovely I definitely recommend that it’s just getting in or on and off the beach that’s the that’s the tricky bit um might be a bit better with
