hi everyone and welcome to how to move through Amsterdam a new series in which we explore different Transportation methods to move through the city I’m Felicia and I’m jro today we’re going to be tackling a quintessential Amsterdam experience cycling it might seem daunting at first but we’re going to teach you all that you need to know and by the end of this video you’ll be cruising through the city like a local exactly cycling is a great way to EXP for Amsterdam you get fresh air you get to see the sites and see Amsterdam from a whole new perspective so first things first your Noble seed renting a bike in Amsterdam is easy and affordable you can expect to pay around 10 to 15 and you can identify a bike shop by the bikes outside alternatively you can also rent your bike at your hotel or hostal so make sure to check with your accommodation first pro tip download the city card app if you bought a city card it has a map that helps you find partner shops with special deals on choosing the right bike don’t overthink it a lot of locals like to ride on om F which literally translates to Grandma bikes but that says nothing about the speed these are very comfortable bikes with a low step in frame and a backwards breake alternatively you could also go for something a bit more speedy and something with gears for example at the bike shop they’ll make sure that you have the right size bike but something that you can check yourself is if your seat is hip heip this makes sure that you can get on your bike and off your bike easily for those who need it you can ask for other accessible options and other types of bikes here are some accessibility tips to consider cargo bikes explore the city with a friend or family member some shops offer cargo bikes with comfortable seating for passengers tandem bikes tandem bikes are a fun way to experience cycling with someone who might need a little extra assistance there’s also adaptive bicycles some specialized shops offer rentals for bicycles with hand controls or other adaptations bike rentals will also offer helmets and other accessories you might need need we recommend getting a helmet if you’re not really comfortable on a bike yet remember cycling Amsterdam should be fun and inclusive for everyone don’t hesitate to ask the rental shops about their accessibility options now that you’re all set and ready to go let’s talk about navigating the city on two wheels Amsterdam has a great network of Red Bicycle Lanes you’ll also see them with dotted lines and a bicycle painted on the ground if you’re on a road without a bike path just make sure that you stick to one side so that all the other vehicles can pass you now here’s the thing cycling and Amer has a certain Vibe the locals here don’t always follow the rules to a te so here are some handy tips and guidelines that you should stick to always signal your turns with a hand or arm out watch out for trams their tracks can be really tricky to navigate and you wouldn’t want your tires to get stuck in them avoid riding on sidewalks pedestrians have the right of way there and always stop to let pedestrians Cross by the crosswalk even though locals may not do this don’t text or call on the phone while cycling besides the fact that it’s illegal you you’ll get a fine it’s dangerous for yourself and others during rush hour can get pretty busy with bike traffic so make sure you leave enough room for people to pass especially if you’re riding side by side with your travel buddy you should also keep an eye out for the white shark teeth painted on the ground if they’re pointing towards you it’s an indication that you should be giving way to oncoming traffic on the other hand the square blocks demonstrate that you have priority you’ll often see these at roundabouts take your time and enjoy the ride cycling in amam is all about the journey and not the destination so soak up the sights feel the wind in your hair and don’t be afraid to get a little lost

Please note €12.50 per day is the maximum for a regular granny bike
There are also scammers who charge €25 or even €10 per hour

I love Amsterdam!
De eerste trein uit de stad nemen
It is mostly more than 10€-15€ for a rental bike. Looks fun.
