Learning how to adjust gears adds a whole new dimension to home bike maintenance. Smooth running front gears pays off in performance, so having the adjustment know-how is a handy skill for cyclists.
Gain the knowledge on mountain bike gear adjustments by watching this how to video.
[Music] hi there today I’ll be showing you how to adjust your front gears for this adjustment you’ll need your multitool or hex key set firstly you want to make sure that you’re in gear one on your front gears so that will be your smallest Cog on the crank set we need to make sure the barrel adjuster on the front is screwed all the way in next you want to unscrew this bolt here on the front to allow the cable to be free like so once you’ve done this the next thing you want to do is make sure that the front derailer is 3 minut above the crank set yep that’s perfect and you want to make sure that it’s straight and flush with the actual cogs as well you need to Now set the lower and higher limit screws if you don’t set the lower and higher limit screws the lower one will cause the chain to go into the frame and the higher one will cause the chain to come off the low limit screw you need to be using when you’re adjusting the low cogs so that’s one we’re going to use first you’ll need to be in the Top Gear on the rear gears just run it through and notice that it’s not touching the side of the derailer and then all you want to do is make sure you go all the way to your top gear which is gear eight on this bike push the front derailer all the way over what you need to make sure is you don’t get that sound which is the sound of it catching on the lower end just screw that in to bring it towards us so you don’t hear that noise now that’s adjusted and it’s not catching we’ll do our higher need to push the front derailer and as you can see there’s still a gap on the left hand side now that will need screwing in a little bit otherwise the chain will come off when we put it all together just a little bit there and then test again there we are we need to make sure the barrel adjuster on the front is screwed all the way in and then the last thing to do is to reattach the cable so you want to pull onto the cable and screw it back in once you’ve done that the last thing you want to do is check the cable tension all you need to do is go up to the up to gear one on the rear gears and then push on to second on the front cogs make sure it’s not catching go all the way up to your Top Gear on the rear and notice it’s not catching there and then interferred on the front and check that the chain is not coming off and it’s not catching and there we are and that’s how to adjust your front gears [Music]

this guy has the most generic douchebag face ever, great video btw.
muito bom gostei
The lower and high limit screws, that's probably why I had my accident on the high gear. Lucky that a car didn't hit me.
Shitty Video
Um, a few steps left out…
The end of my cable looks like pubes, can you make a video on how to replace the cable.
You call 'top gear' in the rear derailleur first the biggest, then the smallest cog…
Terrible advice 3 mm works in most cases but not all . xt decore triple 9 speed back on the inside of the front mech there is a ridge. On the small front cog the chain should be just under the ridge.Put tension on the chain when adjusting below the ridge this is the only way i could get full range of gears, when on the front large cog the gap is 15 mm
Terrible video! Sorry but someone really dropped the ball during editing here. This one by Park Tool is actually useful… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNG7g83lI-s&t=418s
Halfords
We can not hear the sound we are asked to listen for, as you are playing music throughout.
Awful video
This is great video, I have what looks like same Shimano fd, ie, same unusual cable path to locknut and red sticker for teeth, didn't come with instructions so this video answers lots of questions, although my spring is much harder to move. I have worked on several of my bikes with other derauilers (current is custom drive train converting 7 speed folding MTB to 21 speed) and this particular fd is the hardest I have ever worked with. I was watching/listening to SNL so I didn't listen to this video and am not confused as some comments are about low and high etc.
????????????????
Yesterday my brother got a brand new Carrera vengeance and after a short wheelie his back wheel stopped and fell off
Just sayin
My shifting cable comes from the top. WIll it fit this derauiller//
My Scott bike needs a new back wheel and maybe a look over at the gears. It's got 27gears a wonder if Halfords would fix it for me if I took it in and obviously I would pay them for their service. Then I could give it to my dad as he loves it.
IDIOTTTT TUTORIAL
Cant even understand
THIS VIDEO IS SUCH A FUNNY CRAZY VIDEO
NOT RECOMMENDED TO WATCH
This is much better than the other video

Pretty useful, going to try this
This the most detailed and simple video I ever watch 😌
Thank you for your video
Doesn't even fit on my frame. Money wasted
It's a shame this bloke ain't in all the stores. Most don't know what a bike looks like unfortunately
So to check the derailleur clearance to the outside gear you put it on gear 1 and then pull the derailleur outward as in the video?
Love it!!
No issues with assembly for me https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" – 5'9".
