Hello! Another wild and windy video where I walk the first section of The Viking Way from Barton upon Humber to Barnetby le Wold. The Viking Way is a 149 mile long-distance route that travels from the banks of the Humber, through the rolling Lincolnshire Wolds and finishes at Oakham in Rutland.

[Music] [Music] sh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] morning wind out here unfortunately in this section of the video uh you can’t actually hear a word I’m saying because the wind is so bad on the bank of the humba yeah um you can’t actually understand what I’m saying so I’m here this is uh editing Carrie to give you a little bit more information about what I’m doing in this video well I’m walking from Barton to uh baret be World along the Viking way it’s a 14 mile section that I’m doing in this video um and yeah it’s uh just a really nice section uh it follows uh the South Bank of the Humber for a while until you get to South faraby before turning Inland and then heading over the Linker walls and onto Barnet B um so yeah it’s uh just a nice little walk can give you a bit more information about the Viking Way the Viking Way is about 149 mies altogether um and it’s a linear route that goes from Barton ofan HBA all the way down to oakam in Rutland um so I will let you enjoy the video unfortunately some of the audio is a little bit disrupted by the wind um but yeah it was a windy day um not much I can do about that really uh but I hope you enjoy the video [Music] [Music] nonetheless [Music] it’s just lovely out here today it’s quite windy but it’s lovely and sunny uh temperature is quite b as well so yeah it’s uh quite nice been a bit busy it’s been a few people walking up and down walking dogs and that kind of thing so it’s been a little bit difficult to walk um but from here I’m going to be soon leaving the H and uh we’ll be walking into South Ary then heading in but yeah it’s always a treat to walk by it’s just I love it it’s absolutely stunning so yeah it’s been really nice and it does remind me I do need to get back to the never h way and to carry on while around around the [Music] place [Music] so we’re definitely walking Inland now it’s really peaceful uh not many people around it’s just the occasional dog walk really we it’s uh just it’s still quite Breezy but not quite as windy as it was on the on the yeah it’s really really gorgeous down here yeah it’s uh been quite nice so far very peaceful it’s pretty easy going because it’s uly it’s flat there’s no Hills to contend with there is quite a bit of mud we’ve had a fair bit of rain the past a few weeks it’s like it’s never stopped raining really um so yeah it’s quite muddy and slippery in places otherwise it’s it’s quite lovely some uh gorgeous views from here that I’m sure you can see behind me um yeah it’s really nice absolutely gorgeous out here [Music] today so now I’m pretty much just um wanding through field really um there’s a lovely gravel path to walk on down here that’s quite nice um makes it change um but yeah it’s really peaceful absolutely gorgeous uh I mean there’s not much in the way scenery flat and air few pons um but yeah it’s just really quiet quiet um just lovely really just nice to get away from the world he fabulous um I have to say I think um when I’ve done this section before I’ve tended to do it in summer and uh it’s absolutely gorgeous everything’s and the sun’s out beautiful weather um yeah link shirt I think does Stu to show up his best in but it does get quite hot because obviously there’s no cover really so when it gets hot lure it really gets hot yeah so you got to be yeah just ready I’m just walking through here just so it does remind me of my childhood there such a long hot just yeah yeah I do I really enjoy it around here and appreciate it’s not it’s not a landscape for [Music] everybody do have AIT sentimental attachment to it so yeah but yeah I’m loving it today it’s really nice [Music] [Music] so fortunately have to walk along this road for a little bit it’s a little bit busy some of the cars come by pretty quick there is a bit of grass version walk I suppose that’s [Applause] something fortunately the route does take you past some roads um there’s that horrible bit of Road you have to walk along this horrible bit of Road and then you cross the a15 and then you have to walk down another bit of road which is the slip Road onto the 50 before you find the foot path again which is where we are here and I struggle to find it because there was a truck parked up next to the sign uh and kept walking out I can’t just like walk onto the A5 15 that’s obviously not the way to go I’m going to die if I if I walk onto the 815 so it’s not very nice this bit is really quite un Pleasant and you’re going to be walking along the side of the a15 for a short while before head off again into some Fields so yeah this bit is a bit um bit rubbish and you got to be careful that you don’t get squished by a truck cuz there was quite a few trucks going past me at a fair speed though not nice at all but um despite all the noise it is a still a beautiful day sun is still shining uh so yeah it’s quite nice so I want to get back past um all this uh the trail should improve dramatically I’m leaving the a15 behind me and I am very happy about that because it is very loud and noisy and rather unpleasant uh so now we’re heading back through the fields um yeah unfortunately the a15 sort of like definitely Disturbed the piece of the journey uh it’s not so nice I don’t mind driving down it but it’s definitely not nice to walk beside it even if you are like on the other side of a hedge is still not very nice uh but yeah so of back to sort of tromping through the fields now um so hope hopefully back to some peace and quiet so I’m just following the field tracks now and I have to say I did forget how many fields there are on this section of the uh the Viking way but it is lovely I mean the sun’s still shining it’s been absolutely gorgeous uh a bit blustery but it’s just so nice to have a day without the rate uh it’s just just great to get out um what else can I say about the Viking Way uh P from it’s flat it’s easy going um yeah uh I haven’t encountered any Styles um so so that’s good so if that’s a a problem for you then the Viking ways perfect um yeah it’s um quite well marked out the low side posts and um if you’re using GPS to follow the route you’re always going to have phone signal um so you don’t necessarily have to be amazing at uh map reading to do this unlike uh the Yi Dales where you can’t rely on the signal you really need to know how to read a map um so yeah it’s been a pretty nice walk I have to say uh definitely a better one to do in the summer I think I mean it’s been really nice today I think yeah when I’ve done it in the summer I’ve definitely enjoyed it more when you get like all the fields are you know soort full of full of life it’s a bit nicer um it’s a bit muddy just like plowed fields at the moment uh but still yeah it’s been been absolutely gorgeous today I’ve really enjoyed it I have to say I am feeling a bit tired now at one point point I saw a deer run across a field and my first thought was it’s a really big rabbit so I thought must be getting tired um so yeah I’m definitely ready for before sit down and a cup of tea I think uh but yeah it’s been absolutely gorgeous so far today um wellow I’ll just keep going and get to the end [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] well I have made it to Barnet B Leal I’m currently at Barnet B train station waiting for my train um yeah it’s been a really lovely walk today really enjoyed it but I am tired I think I’ve done over 15 miles cuz I started from uh Barton itself and then walked up to the up to the river um so I added a bit extra so my feet oh my feet are killing me now uh so yeah I’m looking forward to getting back and uh yeah getting some food and relaxing for the evening but yeah it’s been a really gorgeous walk really enjoyed it uh so I don’t know when I’ll next do another section of the Viking Way We just have to see really um just depends on the weather and what what’s happening when I’m around in North Lincolnshire I’m I’m here for the week so I don’t know I might be able to get out again this week or but then again I was thinking I might do another section of the N cway I don’t know yet haven’t quite decided uh I’m just going to see how it goes um but yeah it’s gorgeous evening absolutely lovely there’s nobody here on the station just me um nice and quiet so anyway I’m going to sign off here I’ll say goodbye uh thank you for watching and I’ll see you again next [Music] time

  1. Hi Carrie your bringing back the memories, walked it in 2015, that stretch walking along the A15 is the worst bit of the whole walk, saying that you have the best bits to come once you get nearer to Caistor, Walesby and Tealby where you should pass through the Deer fields, the banks of the Humber are a special place to walk hope you carry on doing the VW cheers nigel

  2. How nice to walk in some sunshine Carrie 👌. Are you planning to do the whole of the Viking Way? And is it doable using public transport to do it in sections? I'm not really in a position to do long-distance paths in one go, so often wonder about this. 🤔.

  3. I think you'll grow quite quickly with your vids.

  5. So grateful for this as I have done a lot of the south of the Viking Way a few years ago but now too gout ridden to walk more than a few hundred metres so good to see the north section
