We found ourselves leaving very early from Straubing as we couldn’t find a way to pay for our night. An early start towards Regensburg for the day meant we could take it easy and we even had a tourist visit to a memorial site called Walhalla. Very incredible structure! We had to go up individually as the bikes weren’t allowed on site. It was a good leg burner to get up and the view was stunning.
From here we made it into Regensburg where we spent 3 nights at the canoe club. We explored the city and even met up with Lauren’s sister and partner. When we get back to cycling we discover the side of Germany that I think people come here for. The quaint and colourful villages scattered amongst the fields and hills, really changed our mind on Germany. Turning off the flat and boring Eurovelo 6 probably helped too!

we’re Lauren and Scott and we are cycling 10,000 km across Europe starting in Greece the plan is to cycle to the west coast of Ireland passing through 15 countries we cycle through some of the most magical landscapes Europe has to offer so join us on our first ever bike tour as we learn to navigate the European cycling networks encounter all weather conditions and overindulge in our favorite baked goods mine’s so crunchy in this episode we continue on what we are finding to be quite boring river riding in Germany on the Franconian main cycle route we make an unexpected stop and we even get to see family on the other side of the world and
change our minds a lot on Germany in the last episode after many detours a pit stop in a random town for dinner and over a 100 km we finally arrived at the canoe club in Strobing we did try to wild camp but unsuccessfully okay we’re in the canoe club set up it’s very confusing we’ve been trying to find someone to pay and we can’t find anyone we can’t find a reception um I found a cleaning lady i think she’s a cleaning lady she was sweeping the ground and I asked her if I could put my tent up and then she was like “Yeah.” And then I was like “Well can I pay you?” And then she was like “No.” And then I was like “Well who do I pay?” And then she was like “No.” So I don’t know what we’re going to do in the morning stopped for some breie it is 6:40 at the moment and we’re on our way to Rein’s boat got some delicious music on the cards supermarkets don’t open until really late here i just thought I would supermarket [Music] heart filled with wories no more in a world full of sorrows what for you watched the world from the place beneath the willow the willow [Applause] [Music] they caught us we were out running them for so long we stopped to do a we wants to go to that place right over there

it’s called Whala she thinks it was like a political meeting place back in the day kind of looks like your Acropolis from here to be honest but uh I feel like you know it’s more like a monument to the people

all right we’re only 5ks out from Rigingsburg now it is 10:00 good timing and we are staying in a canoe club here in Rigensburg and the only downside to this recovery club is it doesn’t have any Wi-Fi but that’s okay so we’re going to go suss that out and then head into the city [Music] forgot how to fix [Music] that free why is it so precious oh I’ll say memories in my head like polar ro they remind you to look ahead time is running out [Music] time is running out [Music] lately I’ve lost my track i’ve s the deepest seas deep hoping I find something to bring back better times oh I’ll say [Music] Club Brigensburg can’t use my bra oh it’s in English

excellent all right here we are at a new um it’s pretty nice there’s just there’s no Wi-Fi and we aren’t sure if there’s a washing machine um no undercover tables either which I don’t even know if there is a table otherwise it’s nice €10 a person a night but we do really need to do washing we never ended up doing washing and pass out which was a bit of a silly choice in the end because they had a washing machine for €2 and they had clothes washes and it was sunny i don’t even know why I didn’t do it i was too busy washing the bikes maybe um but we’re going to hang out here for a bit sit the tent up get ready um we have all day here tomorrow as well um for my sister’s coming so I think I know there’s like a brewery or something wants to go to so I’m sure that’s how the afternoon will pan out it’s only 55k this morning so that’s nice and we stop off at Wella and we went to the supermarket had some delicious yogurt um it’s been like a really fast morning it’s already almost midday we stayed for two full days in Regansburg we really loved the city we did the boring behind thescene things like washing and charging all our electronics but most excitingly we got to see my sister and her partner for a fun night out at a traditional German beer garden we’ve been traveling for almost 3 months now so it was the best to see them we arrived in Calhide but we’re about to leave the sun route of the Euro Valley 7 to go on a different route towards Newberg and now we’re deciding whether we should go into the town or not which I don’t think we should
um and yeah pretty much it it’s been flat day on the river

um so we’re going to follow the river to Newberg just not the Denube so we’ll see what it is

h on this other route that’s not the Urabelloo and it’s got nothing to do with Wei so we pulled over on the side of the track someone’s phone’s here just as he picks it up it starts ringing what are the odds so now we’re just waiting here for the people who own the phone we’re going to come and go get it and then we’ll be back on our route phone successfully given back to the owner we found a nice little chair by the river for our salami cream cheese baguette our fave baguette today extra densy looking huge also 99 cents thought it was 89 but I just looked at the receipt and it’s 99 not bad not bad today has been very difficult for me tired girl i don’t even know why we only gone 50 km and it’s 120 actually that that doesn’t actually sound that bad it’s just the track is very boring if you want an adventurous bike trip don’t take the Uravalo 6/ whatever we’re doing now unless you want flat the river’s nice seen a lot of swans big old brown duck before is that a duck whatever it was it was big it was like a Maybe it was a brown swan just stopped and had a nap so that was good now we better get going need some water [Music] what a cool town this town is Reed Reedberg
yeah reedberg first time yeah i’m going the wrong way so we need to turn back before going to the center it said also to go up there and then that way okay or reading bird [Music] heat heat [Music] rottenberg great great city very lovely we very much enjoyed that stopped in and got some ice cream scott always goes to the same ice cream always gets berry or it always gets yogurt got him a pistachio well the river’s been beautiful for the last like 10 or so kilometers we got like a mountain now mountain views oh cool beautiful bye dies sorry duckies a guy who stayed at the campground yesterday said that he saw a beaver i want to see a beaver that’s amazing so I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled i don’t know if I come out at certain times though always looking everything’s covered in this work my leg chain it’s been a really dusty day and it’s very windy too we’re just covered in it going to this campground at the moment which it’s only €8 for a tent and two people but then we think we have to pay for our bikes but still so cheap so we’re going to go sus that out it’s Saturday night and I don’t really like wild camping on Saturdays Fridays [Applause] [Music] okay we’re in a town called Grading looks very pretty from up here we’re like above the town and the campground’s just on the other side of this really busy highway so we’re just going to head over there it’s actually dinner time so hopefully set up tent and cook some dinner cuz I’m really hungry today’s been a really lovely day and changed our minds a lot on Germany it was still flat but you couldn’t see like forever on the inside view it was nice and the river was beautiful and it is a Saturday so there’s like lots of people out on boats and just having a good old time you know [Music]
