In this video, Josh from Biciclette D’Epoca presents the Maruya gekko, a distinctive track frame showcased at Bespoke 2024 in Dresden, Germany. The frame, inspired by Japanese design and named after the word “gekko,” which means moonlight in Japanese, features a triple triangle design symbolizing the outline of the moon. A traditional Japanese gold leaf technique enhances the aesthetic, adding a unique cultural element. The Maruya brand is notable for producing rare Kieran NJS race frames, which are typically exclusive to professional use but occasionally made available to the public. This particular frame showcases angled tubing at the triple triangle and head tube, contrasting with traditional round Philip bracing style. Exceptional craftsmanship is evident throughout, especially in the brazed joints and beautifully melded dropouts that show precise filing and soldering work. Additionally, the frame designer, Mr. Maruya, who also leads the Stratos brand, produces various types of frames, including road models, but this frame specifically adheres to NJS track standards.
