So to make a long story way longer… I found one of these years ago and turned it into a single speed. Fell in love with the frame. Then got smoked by a car. Womp womp. Last winter I got bored and decided to grab the same frame off eBay and build myself a Cadillac since I've already built up my go fast bike in the intervening time. Took like 5 or 6 months of sourcing parts and cleaning painting… all the fun stuff. But it rides like an absolute dream

The only original parts are the frame derailleur and friction shifter. Derailleur and shifter were from the first bike though I changed out the derailleur cogs for red aluminum with bearings. Had a wheel set made to spec from a guy in the mid West. Got a Campagnolo Record crank set with a smoked 34t ring and decided to make the bike a dedicated 5 speed. Cut all the teeth off the bad ring and flipped positions with the 54t. It's strictly an accent part now. The cockpit is a brand new vintage Nitto stem I somehow found, State bars, Diatech Gold Finger levers and an FSA headset. The frame itself was originally yellow. I pulled the front badge sanded and filled any of the dings then laid a white epoxy coat down. Used a garnet flake for the red but the liquid mask didn't quite do as well as I'd hoped. Eh, is what it is.

All in all it was a super fun project and is criminally comfortable to ride. Just did 30 miles on it today and figured it was the perfect time to rant about it. I attached a picture of the original bike that started this whole thing at the end for fun

Wow, awesome. Lot of work to maintain that color discipline.

How well do the gold finger levers work? I’m intrigued by them and have been thinking of giving them a try on a certain project.

Just curious, why did you make the derailleur anonymous, or did you just polish too enthusiastically? 🙂

That’s awesome. About to finish up a restomod of a 1980 Fuji Monterey. I love these old Fujis.
