Day 3 of 3 walking to Castle donington from Matlock.
Derby to Castle Donington
[Music] right So back in Derby I did go home last night on the bus No point stopping in Derby uh for the night Uh so yeah I went home last night and travel back here on the bus this morning to finish the route off to Castle Donington So got about 11 just over 11 miles to do today Uh mainly along the river Derwent uh back to Castle Donington Uh weather’s lovely I’ve got a banana Uh some chicken bites I think might have a pepperomi as well uh to keep me going for the [Music] day So yeah let’s do this Looking forward to [Music] it Yeah The only uh hill today is right at the end and that’s uh the climb up into Castle Donington Castle Donington is on a hill Uh it’s completely flat the whole way Just got a little bag today Uh hardly any weight in it compared to what I’ve been carrying the last few days Uh so today should be a breeze really uh shorter than yesterday and I’ve not got the weight of the uh 16 kg pack I had on with all my camping gear Uh I have brought with me today my waterproofs I’m not going to need them but I always bring them just in case Uh no matter what the weather really unless it’s unless it’s a heat wave or something I like to bring them with me just in case I’ve also got a um down jacket in there It is a bit cold now Uh but it’s bearable I’m in shorts and t-shirt but I just thought I’d bring that in case in case I needed a bit of extra warmth The clouds come over something like that Uh weather’s been a bit bit sunny a bit cloudy these past couple of days A bit unpredictable I’ve got my drone with me today as well There’s only a slight breeze in the air I’ve not brought it with me the last few days because uh I just couldn’t I just couldn’t fit it in my bag uh with all my camping gear Uh plus it was a bit windier the last few days Uh I may have got away with it but uh yeah a bit of a novice with with the drone at the minute So I’m sure today should be quite like hopefully and get out the countryside before getting out to Daffod Obviously there’s no fly area around East Midland Airport for about 5 miles I think Uh I’ll see if I can get get it get it get it hooked up in the air for a few [Music] [Music] snaps Right by the station now and also the Alexandra pub and the Brunswick Two legendary pubs in Darville If you’re into real one and a4 miles in it’s all been tarmac all the way I think a friend of mine said it’s tarmac for quite a good way I think this is the route the uh Derby fans walk back from the Derby ground to the city center on on match days if I’m right In fact there’s Derby Derby’s ground there Yeah So uh they walk this path back to the city center after the match Yeah Just coming past Pride Park in the background Uh there is a bit of wind in the air actually So I think I’m going to risk the drone at some points and see see how it handles this wind level Uh that’ll be later on in the day Some fishing lake Quite picturesque Lots of wildlife Few fishermanmen out [Music] bit nicer there than this path I’m on It’s a bit boring to be honest at the moment Just a tarmac uh track It’s part of the It’s a cycle network Part of the cycle network I suppose I’m uh making uh not bad pace The uh last split just said I did a 18 18 minute mark So that’s not bad for me I think I’ve sped up a little bit I used to do about 20 and now I’m getting regular 18s Uh so yeah I’m getting a bit faster Decent BMX track here That’s quite well maintained No action today though Suppose it is a Monday But it’s actually a school island is actually for Darish I think I know they may have had theirs It’s northwest Leicester and my nephews in a nice looking truck al so we must be making some progress We’re not far from Elaston Castle That’s 5 minute bike ride Borrow Wash 40minute bike ride Long Eaton 45minut bike ride Nice weird There’s not been much to video on this uh route to be honest It’s just been a tarmac cycle path Uh I have seen some squirrels There’s quite a lot of bird life about I think I I saw what I think was an Egyptian goose Uh managed to video that Uh it may not be I’m not sure if that’s what it is or not Uh let me know in the comments I’ve also seen I don’t know if it’s the same one or if there’s multiple but uh sort of albino herands uh very pure white but I didn’t get chance to film them and I also saw what I believe to be some corance but I didn’t I didn’t get a chance to film them either to be honest but um yes there’s been a quite a bit of wildlife quite a few birds about it’s largely flat largely uh boring route so far Uh not much to film So I’ve got 6.87 miles remaining I’ve done 4.2 up to yet Yeah it’s warming up now Uh I’ve got me drone out in my pocket I’m going to try and have a little fly fly with that See what the follow me function uh works like I’ve come off the main cycle path onto the grass in case any cyclist come by and hit uh cycling into the drone or anything like that So I’ve got insurance anyway Uh we should be all right up here on the path I’m hoping [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] We’re back on the D and Heritage Way Uh sheep again baby lambs of these duties [Applause] Fighting This is more like it off the tarmac mate Nice footpath field Another one of those ducks [Music] blocking the path They’re going to have to move unfortunately Yes So I’m halfway through now Uh about 5 miles to go Uh varying off away from the Derwent now and heading to Ambston I think it is I’ve never actually been there I think it’s a little village And then we’ll be going into Shardlow onto Castle Donington Another style Heat Heat Heat Heat [Music] Back in Shardlow Entering home turf again Not far now It’s just having a walk through Shardo now Not far to go Mainly road work now though Uh mo most of today he’s been on uh tarmac of motors here 28 29 grand for that was a beauty Wow 31 grand Jeez Louise Serious money for classic uh VW camper 51 grand New one I win the lottery Shallow is an inland port uh on the canal network [Applause] I think B on her boat She started her YouTube videos in this area Need to catch up on her her videos And that there’s the River Trent Uh so we’ve walked along the side of the river Y the river Derwent and now the river Trent in the last week and a half on the journey from Mlesfield to Castle Donington and possibly beyond if the weather’s good next week scale of charges taken from the tall house of the old Caendish bridge built 1758 and washed away in 1947 reerected in this position by the county council of Derby and Leicester in 1960 Coaches chariots lands two and six with four wheels each chase chair with two wheels one Torque Wayne and with two wheels hoff mule or a not drawing 0.1 hogs and swine per score 0.6 Six cows or horn cattle cattle each half foot passengers 0.1 the soldiers favor each half very interesting this is a cavendish bridge we’re going to cross now crossing over the river Trent and into Leicester so we’ve also come from Cheshure Mlesfield’s in Cheshire into Darbisha and now we’re passing into Leicester Three counties over the last uh week and a half This is a day day six of walking from Mlesfield to Castle Donington It’s a River Trent there Caendish Bridge over the River Trent Open on 27th of August 1957 Not far now 2.39 miles I’m going to start going uphill So it’s uphill all the way now Uh back to Donington Here we’re at Castle Donington Nearing the end I think less than 2 miles to go but like I say it’s uphill I’ve walked up this hill many times so it’s no problem It’s a steady climb Coming under the A50 now Lots of fishermanmen out again colorful tanks One new year or so but I’m getting on down here Well that’s not me I’m going to be calling in the Jolly Potters uh on the way back I think Might finish the day there Back in Castle Donington Yes that’s me coming back into Castle Donington now Uh 3-day trek from Matlock to Donington complete Um I think I’ve done about 10 1/2 miles today 14 yesterday and 12 the day before 36 1/2 miles I like to say also in less than in the last week and a half I’ve uh walked to Mlesfield uh taking six days So uh feel quite accomplished Uh yeah I could go walking again tomorrow I think Well I’m going to have a rest day Uh uh see if my nephew is doing anything Uh he’s on holiday Uh before going back to work on Wednesday So yeah if you’ve watched this thank you very much Uh the last couple of days haven’t been uh the most scenic or interesting Uh yeah So probably going to continue the route on to Leicester next week if the weather’s good Maybe even further [Music] [Music] [Music] Heat Heat [Music]
