Yesterday, I went out for my first test ride with the all new grail cf 7.
Full of anticipation and excited to finally be back on the road after a long break—then suddenly, the chain fell off completely and snapped, damaging the frame in the process. I managed to put it back on just enough to keep moving. After that, I had no choice but to use the bike like a kick scooter to get home, starting right after crossing a bridge over the Rhine—about 10 km from where it all began.

Do you think this was a quality issue or a problem with the assembly?

I also noticed the saddle kept shifting forward and backward during the ride. It really feels like someone did a poor job assembling the bike in the first place. The quality control seems to have been lacking, and overall it looks like a rushed, half-hearted effort.

  1. That’s the quick link that probably wasn’t fully connected. So i would say yes, an assembly error.

An easy fix though. I would contact canyon for the damages on the frame.

Who assembled your bike? I would have them replace the frame/bike. Also, double-check yo nuts and bolts before you ride

The seat issue, im sure my instructions (different model) had you tighten both 2 sets of bolts on the seat, which would also tighten the rail.

As for the chain issue, that is deffo not something in the instructions as part of the user setup. Contact Canyon and log a claim – I’d want them to repair/change the frame given the damage.

  5. Litterary same thing happened to me with my brand new Aeroad Cf 8 AXS broke at km 14, check my posts 😂😂 ask for a refund, they will refund the chain immediately

Look, obviously the QC at Canyon should catch this, it’s undeniably poor service and I feel your pain. But I’d never ride a bike purchased online without first checking all the bolts were correctly torqued. It’s a 5 minute job and could potentially save you from serious injury.

Worth getting hold of some quick link pliers as well. I say this as someone who’s owned 6 Canyon bikes over the years.

You should have checked it and you assembled the chain lock in a unsafe way. Canyon will not cover your recklessness.
