currently rocking a 48×17 setup. The whole bikes pretty much stock and I can’t seem to crack 21 mph without spinning out completely. Would it be a good idea to jump up to 52×17 for some extra speed? This is a multi use bike for commuting to and from work/skatepark on road and gravel trails. I ride at least 5miles per ride and average about 17mph but I wanna go faster.

Dude, where’s your top tube?!?!?
i have 52/17 on my parallax goes alright, but thinking of going back to 50/17
48/17 is a good all round gearing, but yeah you can out grow it if you ride all the time.. dropping the back to 15 could be another option
if you stick with it you shouldnt need to change ratio to go faster. at 48/17 i and many others can comfortably cruise at 32kph (20mph)… and it’s good for your legs and riding technique to know how to spin. you’ll be able to run a low enough gear ratio for light gravel and slow cruising but still have the ability to hit 40+ for short periods.
I’d say give 50/17 a try if you must, I’m riding that and it’s great, but if you arent able to spin 21mph pretty easily on either of those ratios, the problem could be your pedaling technique. it gets easier with time, just ride your bike!
Spin to win baby. I used to grind a bigger gear, when I was only riding and racing fixed gear and not lifting weights, normally kept 53×17 on. These days, squatting over 400lbs and definitely capable of pushing that big gear if I wanted to, I’m happier on 49×17. Fast enough, but keeps my knees happy and better for the body to spin than grind.
man I wish i jumped on this colorway
