Broken Camera, Best Pub Music & Bizarre Bum Advice | The Great British Pub Ride Day 5

That’s a wrap on Day 5 of the Great British Pub ride!

Today’s ride took us from Worcester to Cheshire, mostly along canal paths. Lovely views, but not ideal for building any kind of speed on a tandem…

We kicked things off with a visit to a bike mechanic (post-crash check-up), then hit a great line of pubs:

On another note, our Insta360 camera took a tumble and broke, bouncing dramatically across the road like it was making a break for freedom. Not the best day for tech, but we’re still rolling.

Lots of good chats with pub owners today. Another reminder that pubs aren’t just places to drink. They’re important community spaces and music venues, facing growing challenges.

again Oh yeah Very enjoyable one Good day Um we started we left Worcester and headed to the Blackar in Starport and 7 which is on the canal Met Maria we did we did get a bike bike first mechanic He he had a look over it because we had that crash the other day Uh and he said there was some things that could do with fixing Even though I’d probably even though I’d say it’s probably like 90% chance that it won’t snap and it’ll be absolutely fine if it snaps But we’re buggers You’ve just got that tiny probability that if that if it does then you you are stuck here But we enter Blackar a classic canal community pub run on Maria who just does everything works 60 80 hours a week Talking to her was quite uh an eye opener in terms of how much one person or a couple can do within the pub and she cooks you know she sort the the hottest day of the year She was having to sort the the seller out because the real ale wasn’t was going to spoil Uh and she said even after 20 years of working in the industry she didn’t know whether she could keep going because she’s facing high electricity bills uh all the all the business rates It was a bit of a sort of wow this is a successful pub The staff are happy people are using it and yet even then she’s she’s thinking about she’s providing a pint for about £350 Yeah she was doing 3.90 a pint which is really good value Great So yeah she was she was she was brilliant Um and then we had a trip to the the Harp Hotel pub um in uh on the outskirts of Wolverampton Brighton Brighton Brighton Is that how you say it or Brighton Come on Sorry mate I’m not from like a different language language Yeah I’m all right Yeah Anyway uh it’s very frustrating It was a wonderful you know circling on the canal was great but you can’t get any speed up It’s quite sort of truncated It’s difficult not to moan about these things but it really is quite unpleasant when you’re on that tandem because it’s a heavy suspension It’s very bumpy Bounces up your bottom You’re having to go over things under things Easy easy tone Oh my god I can’t see anything I can’t see anything Stop Sorry mate That is all right Over and out Bye Bye Uh it’s just it’s like you lose a lot of time and you’re conscious that you don’t want to let these people down by turning up absurdly late Didn’t really matter cuz we got to this hot hotel Was absolutely brilliant Liz was amazing Superstar She made us cups of tea She served us a cob which was uh like one of the most amazing cobbs we’ve ever had I think every time we go to a place and we eat we think it’s the best food we’ve ever had because it’s starving But it was a basic cob And what we said when we came out of that was cos sandwiches That’s all you need to serve That’s all you need to serve Okay Thank you Someone who’s just saying good luck to us Brilliant We need luck She was brilliant I love that pub There was a 90-year-old boy He was celebrating his birthday We bought him a pint He’s been going there for 40 years That was what a local should be Everyone was coming in wishing we have a birthday He told us that to get rid of our bum sore bums is stick a banana Bananas up it which we’re gonna do tonight Exactly Uh then then a bit of an easier run to which Sam which was all about the music Oh my god Walked in and there was this threepiece band One of which it was Ian the landlord He played this amazing tune Uh again I got a bit emotional Uh I just thought we know you just died Can someone hold me um but later But again you just realize how important pubs are for the music scene So pubs away Now where you going to get those stars and how much Starbucks no No Well right I don’t know No you can’t No no But the thing about what he was saying about how much that cost like two grand a month for music and people walking to parks Two grand a year Uh no No it was a month And that’s what Maria was saying as well They’re spending thousands of pounds on because they’re paying the acts They’re paying the licensing Yeah And they have to you know they’re looking after the security of everything And you just think people walk into a boozer Yeah Music is critical You kill pubs you kill music See and then we had our final ride again Another romantic buolic Spoiled only by Danny and Paul following us trying to film us Trying to film us really just exquisite place called um the Chom and uh it’s won loads of awards Great beers I can see why Great food The rooms Going to drink the local whisies We’ve had a good day Come to the Chumlan If I was It’s an amazing amazing venue It’s It’s honestly fantastic Anyway day five again What was your favorite bit darling um my favorite bit was losing the Instagram 360 Seems to split in half Um right What so so what’s so what condition is it in well mate the lens looks scratched but it bounced across the road for about 10 yard So yeah Have a look at it We’ll have a look at the next stop when it catapulted across the street That was I That was good My favorite bit was when Danny kept going “Cut here please Cuz we need to stop cuz it’s a Uber’s here because because Danny and Paul left us like all the all the content somewhere in love you
