Recently bought a YT Capra Core 4 with the new mineral oil SRAM MAVENS (F220, R200).
What’s your guys opinions on them? I know sram gets a lot of hate for their brakes but the new ones seem to have insane power.
How well does the bleed hold? Does anyone have wandering bite issues? Do you guys like the lever feel and power? And what brakes do you think are comparable?

I think you should just make up your own mind
I love ‘em on my levo
I have then as well. The power is good but the bite point jumps around. I have almost had a few crashes because I grabbed the front break a little to late or a little to hard. Not my favorite brakes. My old g2 brakes always felt great and would alway bite the same. Was hopeful the mavin would be the same but so far they are not. Going to get the pro bleed kit and see if I can bleed out the issue.
I did a day this spring on the Silvers in Whistler. I loved them. Lever feel, power, bite point all felt great to me. Easily the best SRAM brake I’ve ever ridden. Felt very similar to my Shimano Zees.
My co-worker cracked a piston on his SLX calipers, so we ordered Maven calipers and turned them into ShAven’s. He said they’ve been great
My new Turbo Levo 3 Comp is all SRAM and so far I dislike the shifting AND the brakes and am just going to make myself wait until next season when I *didn’t* just drop $4700 on a bike to get everything replaced with Shimano from the hub and cassette on out.
More detail:
The brakes don’t modulate for shit and I can’t predict when it’ll bite. So your two options are: (1) this bike is rolling down a 3% grade, or (2) I have just gone OTB. I don’t enjoy either of those sensations.
The actual shift levers are sharp-edged like they’re cheap, and badly placed for my hands so a sharp edge is constantly digging into my thumb. I *really really* miss the two-way release that Shimano has (can up shift by pushing or pulling the lever), as well as the ability to push the levers further and shift two gears instead of one.
Also, it’s a total nitpick, but the brake oil reservoirs are huge and clunky looking.
Edit: Don’t downvote people’s personal opinions. Unless you personally designed the Mavens, there’s no reason to get butthurt here.
Buy the bleed kit. It’s a nice set up.
Love my Hayes dominions and wouldn’t switch because of how great the lever feel is (and how sensitive), but damn, mavens are quite powerful (more than the dominions of course)
Have had mavens for the better part of 6 months now and absolutely love them. Had code ultimates previously and the power on the mavens is a huge jump.
SRAM has a guide on how to do a piston massage and it’s essential to avoid the wandering bite point that some folks, myself included have experienced. Since doing the piston massage they have been flawless and I’m now putting them on my DH bike as well.
had mine for 6 months nothing but confidence inspiring I have the ultimates if you are in the market try to track down a maven limited edition kit has rear and front brake 4 hs2 rotors a bleed kit and all the accessories for $600. they are the strongest brakes I’ve ever felt with signature sram modulation (I’ve had codes r, rsc, XT, trp evo,) as long as you get a good bleed they work great!
